M16A4 has a Steel barrel, Aluminum Receiver and Nylon/Plastic Stock and Hand-guards. The M16A4 is the updated version of the M16A2. The only differences between the two are the M16A4 has a removable carrying handle with an Integral Rail Mounting System that will enable various Optical sights to be mounted in place of A-2 standard adjustable sights. It also has a mounting rail under the fore-end to mount an M-203 Grenade Launcher. Everything else remains the same.

some components of the weapon are metal and some are plastic. the handrails for instance are plastic. while the bolt and trigger mechanisms are metal. not to mention that we can break down every piece of the weapon and compare plastic or metal? i cant say for sure if the parts of the weapon that are metal are steel though sorry. it could be a composite or something else like a lightweight metal. cause the weapon is really not heavy enough to be steel. but an all plastic weapon is unheard of. thats john malkovich in "in the line of fire" its movie fiction. even the glock a mostly plastic composite weapon has metal pieces.
