No, it does not, the science community now calls it (a)biogenesis.
They say that the origins of life are biogenesis, and that evolution is the raw tool that used existing life to create the wide variety of life via mutation.
Yet when I was in grade school, we were taught that evolution was the creator of life.

So if I don't know how cars came to be then cars really do not exist.
That is your basic argument here
Evolution does not deal with origin of life, origin of solar system....so your question has no real meaning or validity.
Now for the nay sayers who say evolution is against the odds. Well I would say they have no clue what they are talking about. If you lay the odds down for each tiny fraction of a step towards change and expand the timeline to thousands of years then the odds are not really so bad...but then again to get any real answers you need people who actually know the theory, and who understand the scientific method.
You have people equating a myth with nothing behind it but the breath used to form the words going up against a theory according to science terminology which means it was thought up, tested, found valid, tested again and again and again and again, with the majority of evidence showing it is valid and the flaws found and tested till we could adapt the theory to actually best explain the data results.
That is like comparing a 2 yr old's drawing to an Atomic reactor.
The vast majority of scientists accept Evolution as fact even if it is not perfect.
So until you can convince the vast majority of scientists that it is wrong and have proof that another idea is better I will not even waste time thinking about it.
Be warned though...scientists will not allow the language twisting, dust kicking up, sleight of hand logic or arguments that are used by 99.9% of the anti-evolution crowd. You will need REAL evidence, and REAL proof...not the 3yr old reasoning used currently

The theory of evolution explains how and why species change. It does not address the origins of life. I don't ignore abiogenesis; in fact, it's a particular interest of mine. If someone points out that abiogenesis is not part of the theory of evolution they're just correcting your misconceptions. They're not "ignoring" abiogenesis. Intelligent people know that abiogenesis has nothing to do with the Big Bang, which first of all wasn't an explosion and second of all occurred roughly 9 billion years before the solar system was formed. No, something doesn't arise out of nothing, That's why I don't buy the religious story that a god just poofed an entire universe into existence from nothing.

Evolutionary theory does not attempt to explain the origin of life, it cannot. Nor can it comment on the creation of the solar system because that is not part of the theory. It is a theory based, generally, on how living things have changed and adapted over time. Seriously, do some reading on the theory and then form an opinion about it.
It can be considered a fact in that the general theory has passed peer review, is accepted by the scientific community, forms the bedrock of the field of biology, and is on solid methodological ground. There is controversy surrounding evolution within the scientific community. However, the controversy does not concern whether or not evolution has occurred, rather, the controversies revolve around the minutae within the theory itself. I would implore you to try to read what you can on evolutionary theory.

Evolution does not explain the origin of the Universe, since evolution is a theory in biology. Biology is a study of life. And life began long time after the universe started. Therefore, by definition evolution is not meant to explain the origin of the universe.
Same reason explains why evolution does not explain the origin of the solar system.
Single-celled organisms IS life.
How life began has been very well explained by evolution. Consult the "Miller-Urey Experiment."

evolution is not about the origin of the solar system, that's astronomy and physics.
you are correct to say that the what and how of the first life form is still a mystery. that's also not what evolution has been about. evolution is about observable evidence and the exact origin of life has not been adequately observed or tested. if the exact origin of life is discovered it will simply be a piece of a much larger puzzle.
nonetheless, evolution still happened. you can not discount the evolution of those early life forms simply because the science community is still working on the very beginnings of life on this planet.

evolution is never used to explain the origin of life (the solar system - whatever) - except as a strawman!
evolution by natural selection provides an (undeniably robust and parsimonious) explanation for the variety of life that exists - given a single, self-replicating organism in the first place.
it's not about the origin of life. that's a whole other question.

You discredit yourself by assuming that evolution attempts to explain how the universe came into existence. The theory of evolution refers to how life has changed over time since the world began.
To Tennisguy: I don't think getting a bunch of thumbs down means you're being "attacked". It just means people don't agree with what you're saying. Who cares how many people give you a thumbs down? Relax a little.

There are two types of evolution. Micro and macro. One means you breed two tall people and you get a taller person. Or the faster traits in animals survive so you get faster animals. Then you have viruses and bacteria mutating to become stronger and deadlier. The other one is humans come from apes. But this is not true or can be proven. No one has ever breeded bacteria to become anything else than bacteria. Or dogs to become anything else than just more dogs. That has proven that you can't turn into anything else and your ancestors were all humans and were never monkeys. Then you have the first cell developed from some chemical goop then later became a fish which later came out of the sea. This too can't happen. The single cell organism is so complex that it could never be formed on accident let alone one that can reproduce itself. Of course they don't mention this in school and even the most educated along with the ACLU are horrified of intelligent desighn and creationism. Thus they shove their own doctrine down young people's throats and into their minds. This can be incredibly confusing for religious people.

Evolution doesn't even attempt to explain the origins of life; nor does it have anything to do with cosmology or the origin of the universe. It merely explains and illustrates the path that all life has taken.

Thats a question that everyone considers. Obviously, no one knows the answer. But for the people that try to wrap it up so easily by saying "It must have been God", then where did God come from? People answer that with "God was just always there." But that doesn't answer anything either because if God could have "always been there", why couldn't the universe have just "always been there"? No one knows the answers to these questions and there doesn't really seem to be any way to figure it out.
