The ninth commandment, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" (Exodus 20:16; Deuteronomy 5:20), protects our relationship with God because by seeking and bearing true witness to the truth, we can have a relationship with God. God is truth (John 14:6), and he who speaks truth from the heart abides with God (Psalm 15:1-2). Speaking the truth also shows love toward our fellow man (Ephesians 4:15). Lies of any kind—bald-faced, white or anywhere in between—cause separation and distrust, while truth, though sometimes hard to bear at first, produces unity and trust in the end.

How can you say you love God but make lies about someones faith or beliefs, isn't that bearing false witness?

Don't get confused and try to twist the Lord's Words.

No, saying you seen someone commit a sin is bearing false witness. Lying about ones actions is bearing false witness.

Making accusations about ones beliefs with out understanding is judging. We are to discern from what is righteous and what is wicked.
We are not to be yoked with unbelievers.
As it is written in the Bible:

2 Corinthians 6:14
[ Do Not Be Yoked With Unbelievers ] Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

You are absolutely correct. Bearing a false witness is just one of the commandments that a lot of people break. You must understand, that Christians are not perfect, Christians are forgiven. However committing a sin, knowing that you can ask God for forgiveness later, is blasphemy.

And what if one lies to another out of love, in order to protect the other person from something that would hurt them terribly?

Why do you focus on the letter of the law?

Have you not read, where the midwives of Israel in Egypt, lied to Pharaoh in order to save the male children, and were commended by God?
