Think about TITLE. TITLE transfer. ... You can take POSSESSION of it and keep it as your own...but to make it legal is a whole other issue to be considered.

If you don't possess it now, then the only way to take possession is to steal it.
I'm going to assume what you really want is to take ownership. There is a procedure for that in your state, involving going to court. You'll need to talk to an attorney, probably. The owner of a storage place might be nice enough to tell you how he does it.
Basically you advertise that the owner of the car should come and get it, and when they don't, the court should give you the title.

Out west in Gods Country one would put a lein on the car. Nitify the owner if possible by regestered mail. post he lein papers by the car for 30 days. No one responds then car is yours go to local lic office and file for lost reg papers.. In your area may be the same but check with your DMV and get the proper paperwork
