Some typically developing children (usually all male) do work on toilet training at 5 and may need to wear a diaper for health and hygiene. But, not very many.

Is he interested in and given the opportunity to use the toilet? Is he receiving regular medical care and well-child appointments? Are there ways that you can help your friend and his son that might make a difference? Wondering...

WOW! Red flags are flying in my corner on this one. My husband and I are foster parents and this one bothers me badly!!!! The father allowing his 5 year old son to continue to wear diapers is child neglect. Talk about laziness on the father's part. There is absolutely NO reason this child should be in diapers at this age. When my kids were little, we couldn't even enroll them into preschool unless we were at least starting to potty train and that was at age 2, or 3. I would get social services involved ASAP. If not, this kid is going to have all kinds of social and behavioral problems later in life.

Unless the child has a medical reason for no potty training I have not heard that the school HAS to take him. If they did he would be in a special education class with a nurse since teachers do not have the time or training to handle that. This guy needs to take his son to the doctor for a full medical workup to find out whats going on. Normally toddlers will potty train all on their own with minimal effort from parents. Other then that he needs to step up and be responsible for his son.

Unless he has a problem then he can't go to school wearing a diaper. The kid needs a mothering figure in his life. Maybe you can potty train him and try to encourage your friend to help too.

Get rid of the diapers immediately. He should be sent to school with a change of clothes. (just in case) His teachers should be made aware of the situation - they might be able to help and turn this bad habit round. They've bound to have come across slower kids that need a little encouragement. Also the other kids might have a good influence on him as he watches and learns from them.

I have never heard a story like this one but here goes my answer. Yes, the other kids will make fun of him for wearing a diaper and he will want to use the bathroom eventually.
He also will get tired of running around with poo in his pants and wet most of the time, It will not take long before he wants to wear under pants and use the bathroom.

yes, social services should be involved and yes, kids are cruel these days and will probably make fun of him and finally no, teachers don't change diapers. he should've been potty trained 2 years ago. tell your friend to seek counseling for himself and his son because it's obvious he needs all the help he can get.

at the beginning, this is surprising to me that a father is so negligent of his baby! confident this is overlook! in my opinion the daddy must be rigidity-caught in a pair of diapers for twenty-four hrs to realize how disgusting that's! it isn't the teachers duty to alter a 5 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous boys/ladies diaper. At this age the youngster is complete adequate, that if the daddy tells him how one ought to apply the bathing room he will understand. As a pal you should consult from the daddy and tell him which you're worried approximately this, assuming you're....

Yikes. Throw out all the diapers. That's it, no more. If the child wants to pee all over himself, fine. You should also look into therapy for the child, seriously. Maybe he is regressing b/c he has a lot on his mind and he cannot express it.
