Looking for a good warm durable pair of gloves, for not too expensive. Thanks.

I've been using OR Pro-Ice Mittens for the past 5 years...the same mittens. They are similar to the OR Cornice mittens, mine have been discontinued. The Cornice retail for about $100. They are Gore-Tex and have Nylon Cordura reinforcement.

I rarely use the Polartec 300 liners and instead opt for a Polartec Stretch Windbloc or a Gore N2S liner glove.

4 years ago I was at Jay Peak, VT. It was mid-january. The temperature was -20F with the windchill. The wind was so bad they stopped running the tram to the top of the mountain and were issuing vouchers to skiers due to the cold and wind. I wore the OR mittens and Windbloc liners and skied for 4 hours on the trails still open.

A lot of people hate mittens, but they are always warmer than gloves. If you are dead set on gloves, OR's Coulior gloves ($99 MSRP) and Mountain Hardware Snow Pro ($85? MSRP) are two good choices as they are both warm and fairly indestructable. I've tested both of those as well and found them warm and comfortable even on cold days.

Anything from Level, Hestra, or Swany is usually good. The specific model depends on what you're looking for...just make sure it looks like it will hold up. A lot of cheaper gloves that feel warm in the store will get torn up and not work anymore within a few days (even gore-tex ones).
