You're quite right, I agree.
Most governments use religion to control the common people.

The Bible is mainly about how we are to live our lives so that we may be with Him when we die. You cannot possibly believe that the Bible was written by one person. If it were fake, then it would have been one of the greatest collaborative efforts known to man. The writing style is not consistent enough throughout to have one author. The story line is also rather complex. This is no short novel. This is a complex, well written book. If you take the New Testament as an example, you will see the 4 gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). These books each have their own style. As do all of the chapters in the Bible. The point of having many authors is to give proof to its authenticity. You could argue it was a collaborative effort, but I have never seen evidence of this. The Bible is a divinely inspired book of how we can be saved from our sins.

The Bible is the account of God's action in the world and his purpose with all creation. The writing of the Bible took place over sixteen centuries and is the work of over forty human authors. It is a quite amazing collection of 66 books with very different styles all containing the message God desired us to have.
This compilation of booklets contains an astonishing variety of literary styles. It provides many stories about the lives of good and bad people, about battles and journeys, about the life of Jesus along with letters written to groups of Christians that met in homes. It comes to us in narratives and dialogues, in proverbs and parables, in songs and allegories, in history and prophecy.
The accounts in the Bible were not generally written down as they occurred. Rather they were told over and over again and handed down through the years before someone finally wrote them down. Yet the same themes may be found throughout the book.
The Bible for me is a guide book, a roadmap to how I should live. Strangely enough, as I listen to the Holy Spirit, I have received revelation about how to read the scriptures. The Old Testament is for foundation - for information. I enjoy the Psalms and Proverbs because it is still informative and wisdom that can be used even today. But I have found that the New Testatment speaks more to the Believers of today. I pay more attention to the words that Jesus spoke. I have learned more about the character of God - through reading what Jesus had to say. He and His Father are one and to know Jesus is to know the Father. This was not evident in the Old Testament. There are so many areas in the Word of God (Bible) that provide comfort and peace and joy to me. I can find any information, the answer to any question in his word. I know that this is not just some book that some man or men wrote. I believe that there is no way this book would have lasted all these years, had it not been truth. People would not have died over it, people even today would not risk their lives if there was not some truth to it.
I recently met a lady who had traveled to China and she told me she wandered into a store to purchase some gifts for her family. Apparently, she was wearing a gold cross around her neck and the Asian woman in the store was so excited and began jumping up and down and crying. She pulled my friend to her small desk and pulled out her Bible and pointed to her and referenced in her own broken English - "You, Christian', I too. Jesus. See my Bible.
The point is - this is a communist country and the Word of God has spread even to this country and there are people who are anxious to have hope and a belief of the truth and a peace and joy that the world has not given. No mere book can do this. Only the Word of God can. I don't try to judge right and wrong - I only know that life is sweeter and more meaningful to me with Jesus present. I am grateful to have that knowledge and wisdom about who He is and who I am to Him. As a minister once told me a long time ago -" I'd rather have him and not need him - than to need him and not have him."
If you are concerned about all of these issues and whether something is right, wrong or true, may I just add that I believe everyone should have peace about their faith and belief and I encourage you to continue to search for answers, should you so desire. But always know that you are loved.

The Bible is about God and his beloved creation, us, we are made in his image, it says we are the apple of his eye, he created all us to go to Heaven and be with him in Paradise, obviously you don't believe that, and how can you say its controling people when every terrible crime is on the rise in this nation and around the world. There definitely not following the ten commandments, of course we have removed them from our schools and prayer from our schools, that was back in the 70's and now every state in the US can't build enough prisons to hold all the violent criminals. The fact of the matter is if we had stuck with the Bible, for the Bible says God is love, then I don't think we would be in the shape we are today, there is no love in the world today, no compassion, all of this comes from the bible, so when you do away with it today is what you get, I recommend we all start going back to church and start serving the creator of the universe. I have said the sinners Prayer and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, have you, if you would like to just say this Prayer and Jesus will come into your heart and save you, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

If I read Anne Frank in bits and pieces it wouldn't make sense either. Yet here you are forming an opinion and making judgments on a book you have never spent time studying.
The bible is a story. The story of God's attempt to live among His creation and man's rejection.
I'll bet you can read a romance novel cover to cover and wish there was more.
The word of the creator of the universe gets a quick look.
What you want is understanding without effort. Won't happen.

The Bible was written by 40 different authors over a period of about 1500 years on 3 different continents and yet it tells a cohesive story from beginning to end.
It starts out with God's "very good" creation, the corruption of the creation due to sin and ends with a new sin free earth where there is no more death or sorrow or pain.
In between you find God's dealings with humankind as his plan of redemption unfolds over the centuries. It contains God's wisdom for living and addresses most every aspect of human life.

The Bible is a collection of many writings by many authors over a period of hundreds of years. There are stories, histories, biographies and letters and political commentary. There are songs, poems, wise sayings, laws, and commandments. There are lessons about life and love and God.
Jews believe the authors of the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament) were inspired by God.
Christians believe the authors of both the Old and New Testament were inspired by God.
The Bible's primary purpose is to teach us the truth about God and His (or Her) love for us.
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

I think that it is human nature to oversimplify that which is hard to understand. Reading Shakespeare can be difficult until you start to comprehend the culture and language that it was written. The same is true with the Bible, when you get a better grasp biblical history it will start to make a little more sense.

By reading bits and pieces you have a distorted view of the book. Would you read just parts of shakespeare and say you have now perfect knowledge of his writing. The Bible must be read in full and in the spirit because it is a spiritual book. Reading it cold is the same as reading something in another language that you do not know.
