I am relocating from Georgia to California and want to move my car as well as the belongings in my 2 bedroom house. So far the quotes I have received from moving companies are between $3,000-$5,000 USD. Someone told me they used a train before, but I don't know of any...

I'd try a u-haul or Penske/ryder truck/ a few friends to pack up the stuff they have trailers for car load with clothes and stuff..
furniture in truck, sell off what you don't need to take. make a little money for trip (gas).. rental and maybe friend to go with..stay in truck stops to save money. pack food for trip to save as well... going cross -country plan out route ahead of time mostly travel late a night lees traffic through big towns, stop to look around I say at least a 18 day rental if you run into touble along way

If it costs that much to move, you might as well sell most of what you have and take only what you need.

Less hassle that way.
