if a guy came back from the dead(let's say your uncle) and said something like "woah, believe in Jesus or you'll end up in Hell like me, and Hell sucks", would you believe him and/or heed his warning?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the only reason I ask is because I seem to recall a passage from the bible where a similar situation happened(a guy wanted to warn his living relatives about Hell) and the prophet said something like "they have the writings of the prophets, if they don't believe that, they won't believe you"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

anyway, the bible reference is somewhat irrelevant, i just wanted to know what you would do.

No. My being an atheist has to do with a lot more than just my disbelief that god exists. It's a personal choice that I know from the heart is right for me. I'm not giving that up.

Let me see if I understand. Are you asking that if a guy claims that he came back from the dead, my uncle let's say, and said "whoa, believe in jesus or you'll end up in hell like me and hell sucks" would I believe him? No. I would call my aunt Sarah and tell her that her husband hasn't been taking his meds again.

Why cant you faithful get it. We have testimony all over the place from people who claim to know and have experienced these supernatural religious delusions. Many are in my family including all of my uncles. Someone claiming to have risen from the did is not evidence that someone has risen from the dead. It's just one more delusional claim like you folks listen to every Sunday.

Of course if my uncle actually died and then reappeared years later and there was evidence that he was indeed uncle Harry who we know died and we cremated him or whatever then that would be a different kettle of fish altogether. But you're making a point I've been trying to make for decades now. An all powerful god could, if he wanted to I think, cause precisely an event like you describe to happen. He would then have succeeded in converting not only atheists but all of science to a belief in his existence. But such fantastic evidence for us to study like you suggests never appears does it? But if it does, you be sure to let us all know and we'll come running.

roflmao... no. Because people come back from the dead all the time. Its called resuscitation. You might like to look into it. Its a method where doctors can bring people back even after their hearts have stopped beating.

People say alot of things about that. its called a Near Death Experience. Some people claim to have seen a light, which is usually those who expect to see something after they die. Its the brain rapid firing at a time of extreme stress and causing hallucinations.

Guess what... I nearly died myself in 2004 when I was hit by a car. I saw nothing. There is no god, devil, heaven, or hell.

this is a fable and not true so I could hardly do anything but if you want to site something real let me know. the bible is hardly taken as the gods truth forgive the pun in this day and age by the more educated expecially when there are thousand of real documented examples to deal with . Why do people that fear reality always find quotes of a dubious nature from a dubious source rather than speaking of what can be known as true and real .
your accusations don't fool me or many others .

That would bring me a hell of allot closer to believing than now with no evidence. But even then I think it would have to happen more than once and others would have to say they saw it too, and even then I would want to get to the bottom of it first. But believe me I am sure that it would be something I would be obsessed with for some time and would get me thinking.. but for now I just don't believe...

People get neuron misfires or something or other when they're brain is dying from lack of oxygen. So maybe the guy in question was really religious and his last thoughts turned to religion so in his mind he imagined all that stuff. Or maybe he used the excuse of almost dying to spread the Jesus message. And maybe this story is a complete fabrication.

It's all speculative.

wow...thats a tough one. hmmm. i honestly don't know. I mean, if he died and came back to life, what reason would he have to lie about something like that. You would think that would be the last thing on his mind if it weren't true. it could be quite possible that it was a dream. the brain still works and functions long after the blood stops flowing, and the mind can still fabricate thoughts and emotions unconciously. so I would have to say no, I wouldn't change my beliefs.

I'd suspect that the whole situation was some kind of elaborate con-trick. You don't know my uncle obviously, but it is infact exactly the sort of weird thing he would do, probably as a precursor to starting his own church or religion.

Well, if it was a physical being, I'd say hallucination is a side-effect of re-animation, a way for the brain to cope with dying. Then I'd shoot my uncle in the head because of my irrational fear of zombies.
