Both my parents (even though they are divorced) are Protestant and I am converting to Catholicism. PLEASE! When replying to this, don't rag on Catholicism or Christianity...

Anyways, my mom and I recently had a big arguement, and she has decided she is coming out to my place (she is flying out here next weekend) to discuss it with me and meet my boyfriend who is Catholic. She believes I am converting because of him. (which I am NOT)

I know I can't convince her that Catholicism is a good thing, but how can I manage being around her, and letting her meet my boyfriend, when she is so bitter and nasty about it? Any tips on dealing with it?

How old are you? If you are of age, then there is nothing your parents can do. Even if you aren't of age yet, no one can force you to believe a certain way if you don't feel it. If she is so negative, I would avoid introducing her to my boyfriend, unless my boyfriend understood what was going on and was willing to deal with this.

Remind her that religious differences is what this country was founded on. You have every right to believe anything you like regardless of what your parents think. What difference does it make anyway..at least you believe in something....you should tell her you are a Pagan and really twist her up.....give her something to really freak over.

well hopefully you wont make the mistake of leaving your bf because your mother thinks this its not gonna hurt to hear what she has to say if you know your not gonna change your mind just be honest about what you believe and who you want to be with and if she cant see that then just go on with your life its your life anyway she cant control you or your bf just keep an open mind and let her know what and that you think that its the best for you not her good luck

Just tell her that there is no right or wrong religion. The differences is that you found one that coincides with what you believe in your heart and the way that you want to conduct your life.

tell her that you have made your choice in life and that she cant change it. then tell her that you want respect from her or you would rather her not to come. remind her that your not a child, have your own mind, and its your life not hers.
