you should go and thank her. you are 14 and the most important things in your life should be school and your social life. Be glad that she doesn't want you to work just yet. You should take advantage of this time and enjoy it. Soon enough you will be an adult and have to work regurdless.... then you'll be missing the days when life was carefree and full of fun. Dont be in such a rush to grow up. Enjoy this time while you have it.

Ignoring her until she gives in would not show that you are very mature. What you should be doing is trying to prove that you are mature enough to handle a job. Write a list of reasons that you want a job and what you will do to prove that you are grown up enough to have one. Do you get good grades in school? Only work on the weekends. Promise that your grades won't suffer and then keep up you grades. Do you want to save for something specific? Explain that you will save a certain percentage of your wages for your special cause, a percentage for your church or synagogue, and the rest in a savings account. By acting more grown up, you will earn more responsibilities. Make sure that you are ready for them. Good luck

If you have good grades and help around the house, you should sit down and talk with your mom to find out why she does not want you to work.
She may be concerned that your grades would drop -- come up with a workable plan to make sure they don't.
If --on the other hand -- your grades are not good and you do not help out at home, then start to do those things and then talk to her.
Having a job means extra responsibility for you -- you can't expect her to let you take on more responsibility if you are not fulfilling your responsibilities in school or at home.

You can't ignore your mom on this. She is the final word. But, why doesn't she want you to have a job? How are you doing in school? How are you acting at home? She may have some concerns about what would happen if you were working now.

You may be legal to work, but good luck actually finding a job, regardless of what your mom says. Most places won't hire until you're 18 for legal reasons, such as if you got hurt. The generous places (like Target) will hire only if you are at least 16. A good job for someone your age would be babysitting, or a lemonade stand.

i agree with your mom. i commend your willingness to work but you really are to young. right now, your job is to go to school and be a kid. you'll be working all your life, why start now? child labor laws were invented to prevent buisnesses from hiring young kids and putting them to work in sweat shops for less than poverty level wages. there's a reason 14 yr olds shouldn't work. they're kids.wait a couple more yrs before getting a job.
