Faith makes a god real, at least in the mind of believers.
When someone views their world with the assumption that supernatural forces control behind the scenes, every part of the believer's perception is tailored to these assumptions. The sunlight in the trees becomes a sign of god's love, the Asian tsunami become part of predicted biblical events, etc.
For people who do not believe in god, events are just circumstances and natural phenomenon. There is no supernatural involved, and nor is it needed to understand reality.
The complexity of the natural world is more important than a myth built on emotions but lacking in knowledge.

God always shows Himself to everyone. Some just can't see the evidence because they have no faith. He renews His grace & forgiveness each & every morning. With God, "Believing is seeing"-- not the other way around. Consider the colors of nature -- what an artist He is! Consider all that you or I have done wrong in our lives, & we still can expect His forgiveness -- what a father He is! Jesus died so that we could be "adopted" into His family -- what a brother & friend He is! Anyone with doubts need only open their hearts & eyes.

If God reveals anything more to humans, then they no longer have faith. They would instead have first hand knowledge. That would interfere with free will. God has to stay at a distance in order to give us choices.

God is prefect and holy- presenting himself to us would be killing us all. that's why adam and eve couldn't see him "walking" in the garden anymore, after they committed sin.
EDIT
and i'm not completley sure...but i guess another part of why he doesn't just show himself is because he wants us to choose to believe in him. by showing himself would guarentee everyone believing in him, therefore, there'd be no point in faith.
and in respones to punch...honsetly, i'm getting sick out of my mind of atheists telling chrsitians to prove God is real. that's just STUPID. if anyone could prove it 100% with evidence you people can see, it'd basically be the same as God showing himself. there'd be no point in faith, because like the other guy said, instead of free will and faith we'd just have first hand knowledge.

Hey, I am a Muslim.
I have a lecture for everyone who wants proof of Almighty God. It is by the brilliant Muslim scholar, Dr. Zakir Naik. He proves Almighty God’s existence by using some of the many scientific verses in the Qur’an. Scientists are recently discovering these facts, but they were already in the Qur’an 1400 years ago! Please listen to the lecture. It is worth your time.

Faith-The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews Chapter 11:1 In order to have faith, you must believe in Jesus; you must believe that he'll cure that diease or sickness that you have. Walking with Jesus and obeying his word will gladly increase your faith with him. "God works in mysterious ways"; have you ever heard of this saying? Like he can heal people; he can heal you. If you don't mind me asking,"Do you believe in Jesus?" My favorite. gospel in the bible is Luke; try reading Luke and look at the wonderful miracles Jesus performed. Once you read that, I suggest that you read Hebrews through Jude; which will give you an excellent view on faith and how to walk in it.

I think God shows himself all the time, people just need to see him. We all get blinded by the world and our problems but if you really look you see Him and hear Him

No, a person can see God if he dies or by chances he has a heart of a saint. At present, you can't see God because he is in your heart guiding you.
