Cause this is what i think. There is in fact nothing wrong with the earths environment. Hell!!! if human kind first started of in an ice age and the ice started to melt after some thousands of years after we've adapted, then we would think, as we do now, that their is something wrong with the environment. Same thing goes if we started of in fiery environment. The planet as been around for over 4.5 billions years. It has been through things that are beyond our knowledge and experince. No matter what the danger was back then, earth lived on. Its environment always adapted to whatever the situation was. I can go on and on but im hungry, so lets end this off with a quote from george carlin on this environment issue, "The planet is okay, the people are F**KED!!" -lol, in all seriousness, this guy has a brillant mind - and no, i wasnt influenced by him, just stumbled on to him by mistake.

Well i guess you can say im confused but i like to put it as being open to opinions and right now thats were its at. And im taking about EARTH'S environment, not an environment thats stable enough to sustain human life. Just because earth is becoming more and more unable to sustain human life doesnt mean that theirs something wrong with its environment. It doesnt show but im debating this topic in my head, this opinion to me just seems to keep overruling the other. -sry for spelling errors-

Carlin's line is right-on, but don't misunderstand it. There are a ba-zillion planets out there, each one with their own environment. The earth is the only one we have that is habitable by human beings. So yes, the sun's environment is fine...for the sun, but you couldn't live on it. What is happening on OUR planet is that human beings (yes, the ones who are F&&cked) are poisoning the environment. If humans are successful in doing this the planet will be fine. People who are concerned about the environment are ultimately concerned about humans and our ability to continue to live here. Humans evolved on this planet with the natural resources that allowed them to flourish. Take away those resources....poof...no more humans. But the planet will still be here. What George meant was; if it weren't for humans f**cking it up, the environment would be fine. And he is correct.
Add: I read your addition, and I'm more puzzled than ever. Let's say you have a house. It protects you from weather and predators and it does it's job as a house very well. Someone comes along a drops 500,000,000 pounds of radioactive waste on it. Then looks at you and says, "your house is fine. Nothing was taken away, your house is still there." So, then, would you agree that even though you can no longer live there, that it will in fact kill you to be near it, that it still is fine?

Well i think you are mistaken on a few things. For the first time in the history of the planet the dominant race does have a fundamental understanding of climate patterns. The changes you are talking about in your examples took hundreds of thousands or millions of years to take place. The changes in that are happening now are unlike never before and are happening in a matter of decades.
Your quote is correct. The planet will be fine. However the creatures on it may not be. I guess it is all in how you look at it but personally i dont care what happens to the planet if the human race happens to be extinct.

No, there is nothing wrong with the environment, why don't you go outside and get a fresh breath of air. Oops, no fresh air. Oh well, just go to the local river and scoop some water up and drink it. Oh no, no clean water anywhere. Well, I'll just relax and look at all the millions and billions of stars outside tonight, whup, only two stars showing, sky must be cloudy or something. In the morning I hope there is no more smog, I would truly like to see the blue of the sky instead of the orange?

Earth is like one big chemistry experiment.
Have you seen the experiment where there is a gallon of liquid of one color and someone just drips in one drop of another liquid? And then another drip...
Drip, drip, drip. Nothing happens for a long time; everything is stable, then all of a sudden, one last DRIP and the entire gallon of liquid changes to another color.
Every human we add to the world is just on more drip. When the last drip hits, that's when people will know that something bad happened. And just like the experiment, it goes from "it looks okay to me" to a complete disaster of wiping out millions of people within a short span of time.
What will do us in? We don't know. When is it going to happen? We don't know. Is it going to happen? We don't know. But does it make a really cool science fiction movie?
Yes.

Clearly you are confused.
The increase in number of deaths related to air polution ALONE indicates that the environment is degrading for human survival.
Yeah, sure, if you get rid of all the humans, it will come back.
However, most people presume that we're going to keep living on this planet.

I don't think global warming is nearly as major as Al Gore does, but I still believe we should protect the environment. It isn't right to just destroy and spoil and waste. People should be responsible, and it shouldn't take a bogeyman threat like global climate change to scare them into it.

We (Humans) are screwing it up.....
The past generations did not have the ability to do damage. ( Cave men were not sending rockets and other crap up in space). There are more people on the planet then at any time in the past. People are draining off and using resources at fast rates. Read more - its depressing but true!!
