Place a lukewarm washcloth on his body, dress him in light clothing, restrict all physical activity. Before you give him anymore fever reducers, talk to the doctor. After you get the ok from the doctor try giving him Little Fever's fever/pain reliever.

First, make sure you are giving the appropriate dose. From working in the ER, I can tell you many times moms underdose their kids. You need to correct dose for it to work.
If your child has a fever like that, it might be good to touch bases with his doc if he has one. What's more important is making sure he drinks plently of fluids, clear liquids: dilute apple juice, pedialyte and the like. My kids when they were young hated the taste of it, but I mixed it with a little 7up. Any clear liquids will help keep him hydrated.
A cool bath will help. Popsicles. Most temps should start to go down after a couple of days. My own son however had a fever over 104 intermittently for 6 days, and two visits to the doc, no antibiotics, and he got better on the 7th. Long week!
So, check your dose of medicine, make sure he''s getting the right one. Hope he's better soon!

Give him Tylenol first, wait 2 hours follow with motrin. Then Alternate does of Tylenol and Motrin according to the packages. Pediatrician told me about that a few months back when my 10 year old had a high temp of 105 for four days. The younger the child the higher temp they can take, but try to ensure his does not exceed 103 without rushing through ER. Lots of fluids sprite, gatotrade, soup, what ever he will take. He can also have the popsicles. Give him an alcohol bath, take a rag drenched with alcohol and wipe him down.

Put him in a tub of cool water. Allow him to wear only underpants. Place a fan near him. Encourage him to drink cold liquids or suck on popsicles. Continue with Children's Tylenol liquid 1 1/2 tsp or 7.5mL or Meltaway tablets 3 tabs, either one every 4 hours. No more than 5 doses within a 24 hr. period. And, yes, you can alternate this with Children's Motrin.
Please try not to worry. If your son is behaving normally, it's probably not serious. If you see a sudden or unusual change in behavior (lethargy, vomiting, sleepiness, slow to respond), take him to an ER. If you see no response with my suggestions over the next 24 hours, call his pediatrician's office. There will be an on-call doctor or triage nurse you can speak to for advice. Give all symptoms, keep a record of his temperatures (that you will take one hour after each dose of either Tylenol or Motrin), the times the temps were taken and which med and times of dosages given.

In high fever, the most important thing is to prevent febrile convulsion to occur. Once a child get a febril convulsion, when he or she get fever again, he or she tends to get febrile convulsion at lower fever.
The best way to prevent febrile convulsion is by cooling the head and warming the feet. Soak a little towel in ice water and put it on the head. Put thick socks on his or her feet. Also put bottles filled with warm water near his or her feet.
Boost his or her fluid intake. Water helps lower body temperatures by perspiration and urine production.
Refrain from using antipyretics or fever lowering drugs such as Aspirin, Acetaminophen, etc, because they can be misleading. You think he or she is cured while his or her bacterial infection still proceeds.
Send him or her to a pediatrician for evaluation.

If he's been running a fever that high for that long, he needs to see a doctor. If you don't have one, get him to an ER/urgent care facility.
For the moment, sponge his limbs one at a time with tepid water; this will simulate sweat/perspiration, and hopefully help bring his temperature down, at least temporarily.
Good luck!

a fever that high mean a bacterial infection. it will take time. give him cool baths, try not to give him too many pill, because that body can't fight this infection then. remember to make him drink plenty of fluid, lots of sleep. if the fever presists for 2 more days then go to the doc, otherwise his body can probably take care of it.

My kids are teens now, but when they were toddlers our pediatrician told us to give them motrin then two hours later give them acetominophen (sp?) He said that you don't have to wait 4 hours in between when you switch between the two medications. But check with your dr. first. Then, of course, tepid (not cold baths). The water evaporating off of their skin helps to cool them. Good luck to you and your little one.
