Its the time of year that all Muslims fast. As I got older I questioned the things fed to me over the years and I became an atheist. Today I just got off from an 8 hour shift-I'm tired and thirsty. But I can't go into the kitchen to grab a drink because my relative are over and I can't let them know that I left Islam. Id be very shameful for my family and they'd shun me...Although I think they're the ones who should be ashamed. This is the type of stuff that keeps me from progressing by about forgetting the cult-Islam. What do I do?

We are supposed to question everything around us. God created us that way. Because ultimately we have to decide what we want to believe in and only we are responsible for our choices and actions. In the end, God is going to hold each one of us accountable for what we did in this Life.

I don't think you should blindly believe in Islam, but you do have the ability to find out for yourself more about this religion. There are some very interesting websites about Islam. This one shows a film that makes us think about the different signs of God's existence:
http://www.islamisabout.com/view/78/allah-is-known-through-reasons-1-of-4

"You opened your eyes one day and found yourself in the midst of a lot of blessings. Think about the things that are offered to you by Allah. At every little detail present in the world Allah makes us aware of His existence. This film summons you to ponder over the universe and living beings and see how they have been created flawlessly."

I am a former muslim also, I don't follow any religion though I maintain my belief in god. My situation is a little different from yours because I converted to christianity at 32 y.o. (I'm 34 now) after being raised as a muslim & living my adult life barely practicing the faith, but I chose to tell my father after having a christian baptism because I felt I couldn't live secretly, also everyone else in our family is either non-religious or christian denomination. My father took it well, I was surprised but I realized he was able to be understanding because he converted to islam as a young man and had to tell his christian parents about his own conversion.
You can grab something to eat b4 you return home, this is a short term solution but my suggestion is that you not continue to live a dbl life because eventually it will come out. It's better if they hear it from you than for them to discover it on their own or from someone else. Unless you fear they'd physically harm you, why hold back? It'll only hurt you & your relationship w/ your family in the long run.
If you need strength I would suggest prayer & talk to god about your worries, ask god to give you the strength to reveal your decision & to give your relatives an understanding heart in regards to your choice should you decide to tell them.
If you do decide to tell your family I pray they'll listen & accept your choice w/ understanding & open hearts, instead of shunning you.

God bless you & peace be with you

None of you should be ashamed. Islam is a respectable religion as any other. In my opinion is the sooner you come clean the better it will be. I'm not saying it will be easy or that they will understand it. I know Muslim can be hard to deal with just like any other person from a strict religion who sees one of their own leave. It hits them but that's their problem. Leaving in the shadows does no good. It is a way of lying to others and to yourself. Anyway, you know what is best for you, I don't know the situation so I couldn't say any better. Fasting sometimes is good, it helps you cleanse your system is the best I can say to you.
Your family should understand but you know them better then I do so well.. I hope you can find a solution to this.
Good luck!

I would suck it up and be thankful that you don't live in "one of seven of the world's 57 Islamic States - including Iran - (that) impose the death penalty for conversion"

"A poll of more than 1,000 British Muslims, conducted by the Policy Exchange think-tank this year, found that 36 per cent of Muslims aged between 16 and 24 believe those who convert to another faith should be punished by death."

Now I'm not sure if many of these same Muslims believe the same fate awaits those who "convert to Atheism" if one could frame it as such...
but I guess I'd say I'm sorry you have such a heavy burden to bear but I hope your situation remains better than that of many in this world...
in all sincerity

I thoroughly trust the previous poster. i became continuously a "Muslim" yet as I have been given older I became much extra religious considering i got here across myself agreeing with each and every thing the Quran mentioned and marveling that's perfection. With all due espect Phate, what did you disagree with? You pray 5 circumstances and quickly interior the month of Ramadan interior the call of Allah, your potent writer. You provide money to the undesirable. you mustn't have intercourse in the previous marriage, nor cheat on your companion, i think of all of us comprehend it is incorrect. Alcohol can harm your well being, playing can destroy your existence, you need to be form and god to unquestionably all and sundry. Have mercy on all and sundry, and Allah could have mercy on you. became there quite something you disagreed with so intensely which you became far flung from Islam? if so, i individually choose to appreciate what it became...considering you likely misunderstood it.

questions for the stereotyped believer:
ok.. let us say god exists(i have not used 'God' bcos using caps is too tiresome -_-)
1.then he shd be the biggest guy that there is.
so he does;t need ur help or ur support.
if u believe in god its more than enough.
u need't kiss up to prove it.so why dont u stop wasting your time?
2.why is the almighty and the all-forgiver feared upon by ppl rather than revered.
if u convert-----big deal.
god wont be sad cos u are just another one of his creations.
so why cant u get on with life?

to my prvious post:
just bcos some guy wins arguments it does't mean he is right.
it means he is smart.
so dont take ur religeon rules thingy too far.
AND
as for ur miracles of holy books.
just google the words "edgar cacey".
is he god then?

my point is:
there might be gods ,there mite not be gods.
we shd stop thinking about things that are beyond us,and try to live in peace with people who are around us.
if there is a God(caps used as a mark of respect),he will be proud of us if we are nice to others and progress in life!!!!!!!!

yep-i am an atheist!.
but dont think about this line too much.
think about the previous lines!

You've turned your back on the Islamic cult, but you have exchanged this with atheisism. So what good is that? Now you have no idea where you are going when you die, do you?
Last Days?
And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
"In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
Luke 17:26-33 NKJV
Ask yourself: Is your life preserving? I would say, it is. Turn to the Lord your redeemer.

Smile, be positive, and stop on your way home for a bottle of water to keep in your car or out of harm's way. I'd recommend a real experience with Jesus Christ so when your family finds honesty you can help- You're blazing trail to help your family. God Bless you and your family through Jesus Christ.

Make up your own holiday! Or non-holi day! Celebrate your life and the good things around you.
Look at Christmas, they say that it's not about receiving, it's about giving. Wrong! It's about Jesus' birth! Many of Christmas' traditions come from pagan rituals.
Many religions are like that.
Just go to the the convenience store and buy a drink or something if you're thirsty.
You don't have to tell anyone that you are atheist.
