If you were without a car for years, catching bus and bumming ride for years, even walking home in the dark sometimes, and mum wasn't even trying to help you get a car, then later on, you are finally in a position where you can get your OWN car and don't worry about nobody, but mum is completely against you getting your car for stupid reasons, while your dad was actually taking you to car lots to look around, would you disobey your mother and get a car anyway? I'm a 22 year old man and I think I should do what I want with my own hard earned money. I NEED a car. I should be able to make my own decisions. What would you do though? Make her stop you from getting your car, or get the car anyway?

I would love to know what are the resons your mother give for you not getting a car. It sounds like she is afraid for your safety regarding the car. (example accidents or a runk driver hurting you.) If you decide to get a car don't get a brand new one. I would get a good use car like a Honda or Toyota. You have plenty of time in your life to buy the car of your dreams. Be smart and responsible with the car. Because you are a guy and under 25 your insurance will be high. It sounds like it is time for you to move out of the house and get your own place. Just a thought.

You would not even have to explain yourself to your mum, you are an adult. If it really comes to that, be a bit rude and say you old enough to make your own decisions, and that as a woman, she would never understand it.

Are you serious? Get the damn car, you're over 18 you could now do WHATEVER you want. It's your life, and your money which means you could do whatever the hell you want to do with it. If I were you I'd just get the car, which is what you should do. So go for it! =]
