Well, there is more to it than that. They can't just get married, the church doctrine has to change. People have said for many many years that they should be allowed to be married.
It wouldn't however solve the biggest problem...pedophelia.
Marriage won't stop that.
The Catholic church will always be a safe haven for homosexuals and pedophiles.
The doctrines need to change and they need to start handing these guys who are pediophiles over to the authorities right away instead of shuffling them around from church to church.

No. If they are trusting solely in God, then, they are not setting themselves up for failure. There are some people who choose not to marry and there are others who do, both is perfectly find in the eyes of God. The problems comes when we do the "married" things outside of marriage or people call themselves marrying within the same sex but, that is another story. The Priests are fine in the eyes of the Lord if they choose not to marry for His Sake.

The individual knows better than anyone else. It's easy for a few, a bit difficult for some, and damned near impossible for others. If someone wants to take a vow of abstinence, for whatever reason, I'm all for it. Good for him (or her), but I won't be taking such a vow. No shame in my game.... I love sex, and I'm so glad that I'm married. LOL
P.S. Kooties, you're gonna make some defenseless gals all kinds of hot in the pants if you keep talkin' like that. LMAO

Yes they are and the reason I say that is that the bible tells us to be fruitful and multiply which means we were meant to have helpmates and have children which means that we should have a healthy sex life as well and not doing so can open you up to all sorts of issues when it comes to sex (ie: perversions, unhealthy attitude about sex) So imo priests are setting themselves up by denying a natural part of life.

I do not know why they cannot marry unless their church feels by being married it would take time away from their work of God.
I think Anyone should be able to marry and still be a good person and that includes nuns. No where in the Bible says the word nuns or that Christ is married to anyone.

Yes, priests are setting themselves up for failure. The priest at my church use to put his hand down the backside of my sisters pants when they were about 7 or 8. I can still picture it in my mind. At the time I knew it was wrong. I used to hate him for that but in later years I felt pity for him.

I do think that it's a problem that they didn't foresee when they took their vows. The author Father Andrew Greeley once suggested having a Priest Corps where priests could sign up for four years at a time.

Paul said it is better to marry than to burn. He meant "burn with desire". I think a pastor/priest would have a difficult time counseling family issues if they do not have a family themselves. How can you be an examply of a great father and family man if you can't get married?

Yes I do think that they are setting themselves up for failure by abstaining from sex and I have always felt that because they are suppressing one of gods strongest of urges and that is the urge to reproduce and be close to another human being. It's an unnatural thing to do to suppress that urge.

Jesus personally confirmed the value of fasting from food in order to deny the flesh, for the benefit of the kingdom of God.
Jesus and St. Paul also confirmed the value of fasting from sex (celibacy) in order to deny the flesh, for the benefit of the kingdom of God ... at least for those who might accomplish it.
Those who are called to the priesthood are also called to make a choice. Nobody forces them to become priests.
You have a choice, too.
