I dont have problems with needles at all. So im not sure if i will be of any help, but i will try. Just try and think of something else right before you get the shot. If you can have a friend go in with you and talk to him/her and dont think about the needle or shot at all. And it should be done before you know it. Ask the doctor not to inform you when they doing but just to do it.
I have a few friends who pass out and stuff before getting shots and they say it helps talking to someone about something totally random. Joking helps them best. But Im not really sure. Do you have any piercings? Ears? Anything? Because if you do, a shot feels like nothing compared to getting your ears pierced. I hope I was of some help. Good Luck!

There are several things that you can do! Ask your doctor to give you a small dose of a tranquilizer before you have to have a shot. The other thing that you can do is to go to a behaviorist someone who helps people learn how to over come their phobia's. It can be done. The other issue is to ensure you're self that it's only a temporary thing. The actual shot usually only last about maybe 1 or 2 minutes if that long. I know that if stings to me but since I've had several major operations the pain for me isn't bad. I know that my daughter really hates shots and tries to get out of getting blood taken.
The way that I deal with that situation is to make sure that she does not see the shot taking place. I always let her bury her face in my chest or shoulder so that she can't see what's going to happen, so far it's worked. Maybe it's something that you can try. Make sure that you take someone with you for support.

When they say "shot" or "injection," just let the word go in one ear and out the other. Forget it! For the next few minutes, turn your head away and focus ALL of your attention on something else! Look at the cover of a nearby magazine - analyze it and deeply think how you could make it different or what it means. Look out the window and think about what you are going to do tomorrow or later on. Before you know it, everything will be done! Do not look at any of the doctor's procedure with the needle, or at the needle itself.

I once hid for 12 hours to keep from getting a shot, I had to go the next day and boy was my mother *mad*...another time I was very sick, almost going into the hospital sick with strep, I was 10 and it took 4 nurses and my mother to hold me down for a shot of antibiotics...took em' 15 minutes just to get me turned over!

I dunno what to tell you, getting shots sucks. Yell and scream all you want if it makes you feel better - it's not like you have to take the shot smiling and laughing like it's your birthday. Sometimes repeatedly yelling something like "oh darn, oh darn oh darn" (or whatever, something funny helps too) can really lighten the mood and take your mind offa what you're watching - kinda like a mantra during meditation.

Really you have to decide: "ok, I don't like this its going to happen I will accept it." because shots are a fact of life.

I finally overcame my fear when I wanted a piercing - I thought about it and thought about it and then decided to go for it, and my piercing is in a really sensitive spot (my nose) so it took a lot of courage, but I figure if I can face that I can face any little shot now. Mind over matter...

You think YOU'RE scared of shots...when I was a little girl ..we always had to go to the Health Clinic for our yearly shots...one or them was smallpox shot (which leaves a lot of little holes in your arm..and you had to wear this "cuppatch"...and if something happened (I never knew what)..it mean you had smallpox. Your arm would get real messy where it was..and you had that scar for life.) Well...other kids would tell you about Nurse Crook. She was real big and mean lookin'.They would say that she'd stand on one side of the room and you on the other...and she'd THROW the needle at you.!! lol....We were REALLY REALLY scared. Of course , she didn't...but we didn't know that beforehand. So , of course we'd tell the next group that 's what she did. But...it really didn't cause me to be scared of needles for life. I don't like them, but usually I get people who are good at it and you don't even feel it. I think NOT looking is better than looking. Usually they pinch you beforehand and that's what you think is the needle..but it's not. Don't be scared. Like the song says.."It only hurts for a little while"...(wait till you have a baby !!) lol

just thank your lucky stars that you're not diabetic! it doesn't hurt that much at all (but i've been getting stuck at least 3 times a month in a good month since i was 11). at first it totally freaked me out and i would cry and squirm but after a while i realized that just made it worse because i was making myself hypersensitive to the pain. now when i know i'm going to the dr, i drink lots of water (b/c when you're dehydrated they can't find a vein or it takes them like 3 tries. i know from experience) and take deep breaths on my way to the needle and don't actually look at it. i read the words on the wall clock or the person's name tag and then spell the words i read. by the time you're done spelling, they're done with whatever they need!
hope it helps, it's how i get through it!

no they dont hurt unless there like an inch long and they stick the whole thing in u...
most of the time u see how long a needle if and u freak out because of the size...
but u need to realize, most of the time they only stick like half of it in u and they dont really hurt but the ones that do only sting for a second? trust me its over before u can snap

needles dont hurt at all. if you dont freak out & expect it to hurt really bad, it wont. But if you build it up to be something it's not, than it's going to feel worse. Just relax, talk to the doctor about something else, and while your mind is off it, have them give you the shot.

You said you freak out when you see needles. Are you watching or are they showing them to you or what? Either way, it is much easier if you don't watch. Close your eyes. I am much calmer if I can choose which arm I want them to use so maybe having some control will help you. If not, just do your best to stay calm and it will be over soon.

It doesn't hurt at all I love getting shots. But i hate seeing needles and blood. Just don't look when they do it. Concentrate on something else. It really isn't as bad as you think. But pricks do hurt.
