It heats up... The powder in the casing gets to a stage that it ignites and pushes the projectile out of the case. This releases gas and unburnt powder causing a small explosion. The case and projectile can be ejected from the fire at a high rate of speed and could hurt or kill someone.

Don't throw "bullets" into a fire, it is highly dangerous and you can not control where they might fly off.

g-day!

The rest of the people at the party kick the crap out of you.

You'll get the same result by throwing an unopened beer on the fire as well.

it's Darwin's first law of physics, " any action that could result in the injury or death of some one else because of a stupid a**ed stunt, will result in a beating of untold magnitude".

the bullet and case will separate and shoot in opposite directions for a short distance, depending on the weight of the projectile and case and amount of powder is how far.

It will eventually light the gun powder in the shell and blow up like a small firecracker.

It will not fire like it does in a gun, due to the shell having no pressure around it and no direction for the bullet to travel. So all that will happen is the case will blow up and the bullet will just fall out and not exit the shell with any kind of velocity.

If the fire's hot enough, the bullet will melt.
If the bullet is still in a cartridge, the cartridge is likely to "cook off." It'll pop, but with somewhat less force than when fired from a firearm.

Many of these people are right. I did it before too. The force of the gun powder is not contained in a gun barrel. The energy of the powder expands in all directions. The shell and the bullet separate by about 3 to 5 feet.

Uh, if the fire is hot enough, then the gun powder in the shell, will explode, and the bullet will fire. I would think long and hard, before trying this stunt. Ya may end up, with an extra hole in your head. Peace!

If it's hot enough, it "cooks off".

Without it being in a contained environment (like a chamber of a gun), the blast tends to go in all directions and therefore with little energy in any particular direction.

If you're really smart (and anyone doing this classifies as "really smart" in this scenario), it shoots you in the groin, and then you don't have to worry about ever passing your defective genes to another generation.

It goes off, what else do you think?!
