AIT is Advanced Infantry Training (ARMY).
In the Navy you will most likely go to a class "A" school for your job specility and maybe a class "C" school after that.
Unless there is a special circumstance like death of an immediate family member or a waiting time for your class to conviene you are usually sent directly to school after basic.

AIT? No such thing in the Navy. It depens on what RATE you are. You could go to Great Lakes, across the street from boot camp, Pensacola, San Diego, or Norfolk. Rate is your job in the Navy and the training is called A school. This lasts anywhere from 2 weeks to 8 months. Mine is 8 for ET, Electrical Technician, one of the most prestigios rates in the Navy.

Navy calls it A school. Only certain A schools are held across the tracks from RTC at NTC. No leave is granted between Boot and A school. You could have as little as a couple of hours after Pass in Review to the whole weekend before having to report to A school.

1. Chances are, less than a week. The orders will read to report to such and such a place no sooner than (date).
2. depends on what your specialty is in. I know a guy who's in AIT at Great Lakes and can see boot camp from his window. Poor guy.
As a side note, why aren't you going in as an officer?
