I've lost count on how many people interrupt me to ask a question. Our front office is maybe 20 feet from me. Go there. The book keeper will help.

It happens when there are other people running registers too.

So its not just when i'm the only person in the front.

I've found that people tend to feel like their questions are more important than anyone else's, and do not exhibit the common courtesy and manners to wait their turn. Maybe they think that their interruption is minor, but that still shows a self-centered inclination, IMO. If a cashier was taking care of another customer, I would not, barring emergency, interrupt them before they were finished. That would be totally rude.
Many people have a "me, me, me" attitude where manners take a back seat to instant gratification.

Perhaps organize the business better so that there aren't as many questions? If these are repetitive questions then I'd say there's a problem. I've had arrogant cashiers who will not respond to my presence even with a "break" in their supposed duties and I DO interrupt after waiting a reasonable time. If there is an information counter, it should be marked clearly, and it takes 2 seconds to direct me to it.

Speak to your manager about what he/she considers proper etiquette, I get the impression from your question that you are quite full of yourself and your responsibilities.

i NEVER interrupt a cashier, even if i have a simple little question, i get in the back of the line and wait my turn, i'm proably the only person on earth that does that though.

They probably weren't raised with decent manners. Manners require that you not interrupt others while they're doing something. They'll get to you in due time.

Probably because you are the first person they see or assume you know all the answers. If you can't handle the crowd just politely direct them to the front office. :)

Because those customers that interrupt you are thinking they are the only ones in the store.

the people feel that their needs/wants are more important than the person who is all ready there. They feel that courtesy does not apply and that they do not have to wait.

You must be a very attractive cashier to draw in all these extra questions! Either you look very responsible or look very lovely...maybe both!

People can be rude and self-centered. Consequently, they think everyone is there to attend to their needs.

Because you are the one out front who's job it is to deal with the public.

"Interrupt" you doing what? Counting money and giving change? How hard is that?

Work on your concentration skills.
