The link below will allow you to search by month and year. The figure varies by month. As of 10 AM Washington time last Tuesday there was a total of 3, 086 killed in action. By comparison, during the period of 1980 to 1984, 9,555 active duty personnel died and we were not at war. During the eight years of the Clinton administration there were 7,500 military personnel who died on active duty.
Having lived through those years I cannot recall any great moaning and groaning over those casualty figures. So, when I hear of the outcry about current casualties from someone I ask where their anguish was on September 10, 2001 or earlier.

Not nearly as many as in other wars.....probably about 1% of our casualties compared to WW2...

Yes, still too many, but in the overall grand scheme of things, way less than any other conflict we have been in. We lost more on one day in WW2 than we have in 6 years since 9/11.
