How sad only one of you was close Christ died due to the spear that was thrust in his side. As the bible says blood and water flowed out, and you must be alive to bleed therefore he was alive when the spear pierced his side and he suffered on the cross for nothing. The Romans could have killed him with an arrow or a rock for that matter, son of god indeed.

If it's allegorical then you just threw out the greatest miracle in Christian faith. If he never died he never rose and we are still bound to death and sin.

No you are wrong if you care to read it again when they went to Christ to break his legs he was already dead at least as far as they could see so they added a last jab with a spear to be sure. Jesus was crucified and the process is suffocation, those who were being crucified would push up with their legs to get a breath, Jews believed that the people who were being executed had to be dead before sundown before the Sabbath or there would be a curse brought on them, so the people in charge of executions would go around and break the legs of those being crucified, but Jesus (As prophesied) had no broken bones.
By the way he was dead when they took him off the cross, the same as they make sure those who are being executed (capital punishment) are dead. He is also very much alive as I know because he lives in me.

by the means of crucifixion. it's not the fact that He was nailed to a cross that killed Him, but the way the cross works it basically causes you to suffocate. It breaks limbs out of joint and such. A horrible death. Jesus was already dead by the time the centurian stabbed His side.

nobody knows the exact cause of His death, no one is still alive that was there. but it was most likely suffocation ...it makes the most sense.

i just thought I'd throw in the fact that the nails went through His wrist, I believe it says hands in the Bible ...but back then the wrists would have been included in what they called the hand. The nail went through the area in the middle of the wrist between the two bones, that is the only way it would not tear through the skin ...like it would if it would have been placed in the palm.

Blood lost?

Anyway did you know that in the Philippines during Christmas one person is chosen to be crucified, nails and all. I heard that is a very big event. I've never seen it, but I have Filipino friends who have.

I know this much: he didn't "die for our sins." Dying was not his choice to make. He died because Pilote had had enough of his trouble making. Pilote could have chosen to send him to prison if he had wanted to. If that had happened, the Fundies would now be saying that "Jesus was imprisoned for our sins." Amusing isn't it?

The story of the crucifixion, followed by the three days in the tomb is allegorical.

you mean being nailed on a cross? or more specifically heart failure?

When they stabbed his side, blood and "water" poured out, that's indicative of heart failure. He would've died of suffocation if they broke his legs, since it was getting late. But they didn't because He already died.

you can bleed postmortem. so you are incorrect.

Christ gave his life for us through suffocation, dehydration, excessive blood loss, trauma, etc. Huge amounts of pressure are placed on the lungs by trying to stand on the cross, after a while, the leg muscles give out, and the person suffocates to death. Jesus now lives and reigns in heaven! God bless.

Actually the separation of blood and water indicated that blood had stopped flowing. Thus he was dead.
