I really want to volunteer for my local EMS crew. What are the core requirements to be a volunteer for a local EMS (in southwest VA)??

In most cases, the minimal requirement would be to be an EMT. Find a local volunteer group and ask them!

To my knowledge, most EMS programs require you to take a paid position which typically requires extensive training. You should try the American Red Cross. They do similar stuff. Not the same. But they work with local EMS programs in most cases.

you mean besides being certified?

you probably have to be above 16.

if you're not certified, you'll have to take a class. my local ems place is starting EMT classes in oct/nov. it's like 200 or so hours. 2 days a week. 7-10 pm.
