Poor little thing. I've had dogs with same problems. Allergies are probably the culprit. First of all, do NOT bathe him too often. Brush regularly, itch pills or shots help, a good vet suggested dog food for skin and coat, and when you do bathe, it really should be something for allergies, skin, etc.
If the little thing has boo boos from scratching, Betadine is a very good antiseptic wash you can use on occassion. Actually, once my dog was so miserable in the middle of the night, I got desparate and carefully poured Gold Bond Medicated Powder on her. It worked and we both slept. Also, vet told me Alveeno is good for washing. Good luck.

It sounds like dandruff. This could be one of three problems, you may not be washing your dog enough to remove the dead skin, you may be washing your dog to much, or the shampoo you are using maybe drying his skin out. Use a shampoo for dry skin on your dog. I also use doggie conditioner on him too. This seems to help him. If none of these sound like the case, I would recommend taking him to the vet, he may have psoriasis or another skin condition. Hope this helps.

It sounds like he either has dry skin or maybe an allergy. Try changing his food. There is a good food out there for this and it is call avoderm. It is really good for the skin and coat. Also try to give him a really good bath but dont dry him with a hairdryer cause that could make it worse. Good luck..

Do you bath him often? If you bath him too often his skin will become dry and irritated. If you don't bath him at all, you need to bath him once a month with a good-quality dog shampoo from the pet store. Also, buy one that is made with oatmeal because it helps with dry skin.
Does he has fleas or mites? Make sure you use Frontline monthly on the dog.

Try a medicated and moisturizing shampoo that is recommended for dogs by your vet for sensitive skin. I use Benadryl for scratching but the dosage should be approved for the size of the dog. There are also medicines recommended for dogs with skin problems. Fleas can also be the culprit so use flea control each month. Sometimes I use cool towels sprayed with Solarcaine, lots of petting, holding and love time to make my dog feel good. Good luck!

How oftne do you bathe him, overbathing can cause dry, itchy, flaky skin. This in turn can lead to infections as well.
What do you feed him? Low quality foods will lead to poor skin and coat condition. Feed him a high quality food, Canidae, Innova, Solid Gold and Wellness are few examples of high quality food.

There are several possilibities?
-if you bathe him and don't rinse all the soap off, this can cause major itching
-he might be allergic to something in his food - our dog was allergic to wheat and this is exactly how he acted and looked
-he might have other allergies
- he might have fleas and therefore he is itching like crazy and scratching his own skin off
Take him to a vet and be sure to talk to the vet about possible allergies

Try using a moisturizing dog shampoo. If it is dandruff then you will need to get some anti fungal dog shampoo. You vet would be the best to answer.

Sounds like dry skin. Some of my dogs had that as well. If you check with your vet they may be able to change the dogs diet and put them on a different food to help with that. Good luck.
