I'm sure she would be happy just hanging with you watching a movie. Dogs mostly just want to be with their owner. Just be sure you follow all of your veterinarians instructions. I know it sucks for the 10 days, but it will save you a lot of grief later if you just stick to the rules for a little while. Good luck with your dog!!!

That doesn't sound right. I had my Zoey spayed yesterday, and today she is walking pretty briskly! She always needs a little 'jog' before she can poop. Zoey is a Poodle Mix, about 10 lbs. I took that dam collar off of her while I am in the house with her. Especially the first few days, the incision is too painful, they won't try to bite the stitches for a few days yet. When you leave the house you can put the elizabethan collar on her. Put on some animal planet, or dog whiperer, and feed her ice cream, and rub her head and chest, and just let her rest. She's in fine shape today, walking better, just sleeping alot. Tomorrow is Sunday, let her have the day off of the collar and just watch her. See how she does, and if she starts to fuss with the stitches, then just put the collar on her.

Good Luck!

One of my dogs had surgery 2 years ago, and when I put the e-collar on him, he look like I'd just whipped him.

You can try to get her entertained with a Kong toy. That will help some.

Also, you can try what I did. Pick a time when you can closely observe her. Take the collar off and see if she leaves her stitches alone. If she does. then leave the collar off for a while. My boy amazed me by leaving his sutures alone so I left the e-collar off during the day and put stockinette on his leg at night. If your girl is as well behaved as my boy was, maybe you can either e-collar her only at night, or else wrap her at night

my dog max got spayed yesterday 9/14/07, and he is also bored, but he doesnt need to wear an e-collar unless he starts licking the sutures. we got him a big bad of raw-hide bones with all dofferent tastes and smells and he has been eating thoes all day yesterday and today. the only thing is that he is a very energeting and excitful puppy and cant sit still, so he is running around all day even though we tray to make him clam down.

I can relate, my dog recently broke his leg and had to wear an e-collar. The best thing you can do is leave them be. It's really hard and I know it brought me to tears a few times. (he had all the same restrictions as your dog too). Because of the no activity there is not a whole lot they can do. I know my dogs legs were not long enough to hold anything and chew on it. (I felt so bad for him, that I ended up holding onto a rawhide so he could chew on it). If its a small dog, have it sit on your lap as much as possible, or if its larger sit on a couch and put them on the couch and pet them. Just show them that you are there for them. They bounce back really well and they don't hold grudges so don't be worried about that. (I think the whole ordeal is harder on humans.) I wish you best of luck.

You can take the collar off as long as you are there to supervise her and keep from licking the stitches.

Some good chews such as a bully stick or a treat filled kong should help keep her busy.

Is she on pain meds? If she is and they are making her feel too good, as in "I feel so great I'm gonna bounce off the walls" back off on the meds a little bit. Sounds mean, but if she feels a little crappy she'll decide to rest on her own. You don't want her in extreme pain obviously, but only use pain meds to take the edge off, not eliminate pain completely. That's a bit rambly but I hope it makes sense.

Give her extra attention and love, as well as a few of her favorite toys, and maybe a new one or two. The poor girl's probably a bit sore too, and could really use a hug.

If you're sitting right there with her, you can take the e-collar off for a little bit and give her a little extra attention.

It's when you aren't supervising her that she needs the e-collar.

Get her a kong, these hard rubber toys are made to be stuffed. you can start with peanut butter, then add crunchy bits and if she gets Really good at cleaning it out you can even freeze them!
This will give her something positive to do.
