Well, it depends on what caused the rash. It could be poison ivy, an allergic reaction to flea bites, mites, mange, etc.

most people would take him to the vet. what they are going to do is ask questions try to figure out what he got into to get the rash. do you know what caused it? if so remove the antigen (rash or allergy causing agent), have you changed pet shampoos or airfresheners, chemicals on the lawn or maybe even fleas of pet lice, and what i use is hydro-cortisone creams it is what they usually give me for pet's rashes in the past but i go to the drug store and get an over the counter brand. bathe him first then apply the cream. on the other hand if they are hot spots tablespoon of olive oil on his food once a day for one week then every other day till clear give the olive oil once a week there after to prevent the hot spots in the future. during this time you want bathe him often till they spots are gone

Try giving your dog a nice warm bath with shampoo. Put a flea collar on him. Often dogs get rashes if you dont wash them often. You have to was your dog at least once every 3 weeks.

You need to have your vet differentiate between a hot spot, mange, or some other skin irritation. Don't use flea collars - they are useless and a waste of your money. The flea has to crawl over the collar for it to work, and most fleas don't crawl over the collar. Plus the collar itself can be another source of skin irritation. If it is a hotspot your dog will need the fur shaved off, the area cleaned, and will need oral antibiotics for it to have the best chance at healing. Mange requires other medication. Your vet can diagnose the problem.

Call your vet! Depending on the breed and size I have used Benadryl and Solarcaine (if it is is scratching). Do not allow the dog to lick the area treated with Solarcaine as it is not meant to be ingested. Cool towels can reduce the discomfort and any swelling. Love, petting and holding the dog can move mountains and comfort both of you. Good luck!

you don't just get it off you need to see if fleas or allergy is causing the rash and take the dog to the vet.
