Religous Television Shows

On the one hand, religion doesn't really have that much effect on me in the ways you name: I don't give it my money; I don't believe what it tells me to.

On the other hand, TV doesn't effect me negatively, in the ways you name. I learn from it (I like a really good documentary -- that's not brainwashing, it's educational -- there IS intelligent TV available, if you look); it makes me laugh, and gives me various other forms of enjoyment (such as a good cry, now and then).

Just because people on TV say something, doesn't mean I believe it (any more than I believe what the religious people on this site say, just because they write it).

Best of all, the TV has an off switch.

Religion runs a distant second to the power of brainwashing of popular culture.

A proper exposure to God and religion can help to counteract the real brainwashing that popular culture is constantly throwing at all of us in books, movies, TV, songs, advertisements, and even video games.

Popular culture is constantly bombarding us with intensive, not-so-forcible indoctrination, aimed at setting up worldly convictions and attitudes.

Popular culture comes at us from all directions including books, movies, TV, songs, advertisements, video games and even the Internet.

A few of the these immoral values include:
- Lust and Sex (outside of marriage)
- A disrespect for God and religion
- A disrespect for lawful authority
- A disrespect for our human dignity
- Envy, greed and consumerism
- Anger and Violence
- Drug abuse including smoking and alcohol
- Vanity, outside is more important than inside
- Prejudice and hate

I think that if we expose our children to all this immorality without the moral anchor of God and religion "until they can come to a conclusion of their own" then we would be unwise, irresponsible, and frequently too late.

With love in Christ.

I hear where what your getting at, but this is a totally unfair comparison with false assumptions...and I don't argue "for" religion too often :-)

Maybe a better question is which is worse: religion from your local church or religion from a televangelist? I bet you get asked for money 7 fold times more on TV.

There is a difference between TV and the Christian religion. TV says they are the truth, Jesus IS the truth. TV says you are important, Jesus says he loves you as far as the east is from the west. Very different.

Wow. People are beginning to wake up to the dangers of television? Great!

TV is worse. Religion at least has a CHANCE of leading you to the God of the Universe. TV won't do that.

Religion by far. Religion takes people's money and divides families. Also, religion uses emotional terrorism to make people do what they want (fear of hell).

Definitely religion.

Unless they really up the ante on Survivor...at least no one's ever died for a TV show.

Channel 9; christian television network. I once watched for three hours to punish myself for missing school for a week. I wanted to scratch my eyes out.
