It really depends on what branch of the military you're joining. You said, "boot camp" instead of "basic training" so I'm going to assume you've enlisted in the Marine Corps. Following boot camp, new Marines get 10 days of "boot leave"... after which they report for Combat Training. The length of combat training depends on what the nature of your MOS is... so following combat training you'll have some sort of school... again, depending on your MOS, the school could take anywhere from a couple weeks to a year or more. No official or "block" leaves following combat training or A- and C-schools... but it often works out that you can take some leave in between... it depends on start dates and if there's a wait-list for the school...

That can vary from person to person. Keep in mind, you don't have even a weeks worth of leave on the books yet. Most of the time you go straight to A school. However, you may not class up for days or even weeks( you may not have enough people to form a full class). They will keep you busy though, cleaning and standing watches etc. You may have to go through an indoctrination course also. What A school you going to?

In most cases you report immediately unless your school starts later on, but in that case you will be assigned to a holding unit, so to speak until your school is ready to accept you. So, no you will not have a week or two to get prepared.

You either go home on leave or report right to school. Alot depends on the schools schedule.

if the classes will not start right after your arrival you would be a hold over. Dont worry you wont be bored, most likely you would do CQ duty, like checking ID cards in the Dorm entrance or cleaning duties...
