how can i find out singles events in my city when the newspaper doesnt list them?

I would call the newspaper first and ask them, if there are other newspapers that carry single events.

Maybe you could put an ad in the newspaper, and ask
are there any single events going on, or start your own.....
that would be great.

Call the better business bureau and ask them if there are any
places that actually do single people events.

Maybe go on your computer, and type in single people events or something like that.

There has to be.
