I've done a little bit of it for my church at dances and stuff, but nothing major, and I don't have the resources to create my own music.

OK the big clubs will want you to be able to mix your own stuff. But there are plenty of clubs that just want you to play music of all kinds and take requests. Start by going out and seeing what other people are doing. Go from there. You will need a portable PA and lots of songs, via cds or computer, etc. Maybe some simple lights. There is money to made out there if you know how to read and work the crowd.

you can become a proffessional DJ by letting a lot of people hear you by not charging them anything, and your name will get around town. then you can start charging.
