Here in the Immigration category there's always some rabid nationalist saying horrible things and it makes me wonder if it's racism. I'm not an illegal immigrant but I know what it's like to be Latino and an immigrant. I also know people who are here illegally but who are good, hard-working people and the only law they broke was coming here illegally or overstaying their visa. It seems like "illegal immigrant" is the new homosexual or atheist in the United States. By this I mean how in the past people who were considered gay or heretic were despised and even burned at the stake. I don't understand. Even U.S. Citizens serial killers and pedophiles are not as hated now. Why all the demonization? It wasn't this bad before 9/11 and all the immigration issue debates on the news.

It is the immigration debates that brings the problem and the illegal immigrants to the frint. The hatred is similar to that expressed against any unpopular group. The purpose is to shift blame from those who should be enforcing laws to those who break them. Sadly there are many who do not see beyond the color of one's skin or hair and the accent one uses hen speaking.

Our nation is built on Immigration, legal that is. the problem, is when a person comes here, illegally, and demands rights as a citizen. There is a process for it for a reason, and the number one is to give the economy time to absorb the new people. Our Country is growing so fast with legal citizens that utilities are having a hard time to keep up demand, and the roads are in dis-repair as is without anymore than the 15% new drivers annauly legally. Futhermore, Most legal Immergrants worked hard to obtain the right to be here, and it gets under their skin seeing it just handed out to others. Last, The United states has lost hundered of thousands of jobs to latin america, due to NAU and NAFTA which was supposed to equalize the nations, and only thing it did was give the companies cheap labor. Racism is just a word being used to divert the real issue at stake, and to many use it. I know a few Latino's that are here legally, and they are nice people, but they too, have issue with the illegals. And last but not least, this is a sovergn nation, and no other nation should be able to tell us what to do (Mexican President saying we should let them alone). If you are here legally, WELCOME, but, if not, go home and do it right.

How many times have you seen serial killers and pedophiles marching in groups claiming that everyone who opposes serial killings and pedophiles are are racist?

Another thing which gets my goat are those who equate people who are here legally with those who are committing a crime by being here. I have a good friend, last name Mendez, who is an immigrant. He is totally different from the illegal immigrants, because he moved here legally, and made this his country, served it in the military and is a longtime citizen.

Then there are those who commit identity theft. Another example, a woman who worked with my mother, long retired, was taking care of her disabled husband, and then they lost their Social Security and Medicare because records showed that her disabled husband was working in Texas and she was working in California. They lost their health insurance, income and almost lost their house, with 95% of the mortage principle paid, because some illegals felt that they could pass as "Hernandez". I am not racist, nor opposed to immigration, I am opposed to criminals committing crimes, and I see equating illegals to immigrants the same way I see equating shoplifters to shoppers, or equating poachers to hunters.

I was born here but yet I am a Latina... my family has come here legally and they had to wait like 10 years to do everything the legal way.
I have friends that are illegal and YES they do work very hard, some have ugly jobs.... but that doesnt mean that americans dont work hard!! but let me tell you something.... alot of people do hate illegals because as you said after 9/11 ... many illegals have tried to be heard in a way that they are not suppose to... they want rights that they dont even have ( they are not citizens). First they are here illegal and well thats breaking the law.... but we also have to be aware that each country has their rules and we as immigrants ... and i say we because my parents are legal immigrants ... have to respect that because we are not from here. I live in the border and let me tell you that there are alot of mexican women that pay nursing houses so they can give birth here..... after that they can qualify for chip, food stamps, medicaid... etc.... and thats not fair to the people who are from here.
My friends that are illegal (and they are not bad ppl) they work here with horses and they get like 500dlls a week when the average person here in the border gets like 1000 a month... they get more money than we do and Im not saying all of them but the ones I know.
Also, my social security is being used by someone in chicago and its messing up my credit and everything!! I mean and Im pretty sure I am not the only one with that problem.... so thats also a why people hate illegals.....
I worked at the Community College and most of the people that tried to learn english were the kids that their mothers came from mexico to give birth and thats it.... by the time they are 18 they can come into college apply for financial aid and they are set..... while me that I dont live with my parents didnt qualify for financial aid just because i wasnt living with my parents and im not older than 24 to qualify by myself..... and people that come across the border say that they live with an aunt or grandmother and they help them more to get finacial aid <<< and let me tell you that alot of people were deny from financial aid this year.... i wasnt able to go back to school.
I mean you also have to see al that in order to understand why alot of people hate illegals.
It sad but its so true!

They are breaking the law. Many have a strong dislike (hatred) towards those that blatantly break our laws and are allow to get away with it. That goes for anyone that breaks the law not just illegal immigrants. Doesn't make any difference what your religion is, what your sexual preferences are or what the color of your skin is. When Americans go to a foriegn country and break their laws they are dealt with quite harshly. Much more harshly that those coming to this country are dealt with.

Americans resent having to support so many of them with free health care, housing and education. On top up this they burn our flag and protest their 'rights' in the streets of cities like LA. LA Raza, Mecha and other hate groups have not helped either.

I for one am aggravated for the defense of them. Reminds me of the phrase "other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

Other than the fact that they are illegal criminals...what's the problem?

Don't pay taxes.
Leech off the system.
Don't assimilate.
Break in line in front of others.
And absolutely no freakin' end in sight.
