My mom is 50 years old heavy chain-smoking woman for years. She is on her 3 packs a day habit with no intense to quit or cut it down. She is smoking for about 25 years, and she is always with a ciggie in her mouth smoking like a chimney and every day she smokes more and more. She also likes to smoke two cigs at once saying that she really needs to smoke more to feel good. In a recent years she started to smoke cigars on a daily purpose, she is really deeply inhaling them and says that she likes big smoke that fills her inside. She has a female friends about her age, who also smokes a lot and when they come to our house it is smoke everywhere i'm almost out of breath.
And my mom changed a lot. She looks older than she is, she got wrinkles on her face too early, she has a yellow tar stained teeth and very bad breath, she is always coughing a lot and constantly out of breath, sometimes i noticed that she is feeling dizzy, but she says she is ok. Is it big problem and what should I do?

This degree of smoking is definitely dangerous and detrimental to you as well, being that you are regularly exposed to the second hand smoke. If your mother doesn't feel that here health is worth quiting over, ask her if yours is.

I know that Zyban Wellbutrin is rather successful, generally speaking. Of course she has to be aware of her addiction and want to quit for anything to work.

Good luck and I hope she quits.

Yes, it is a really big deal. If she does not want to stop smoking she won't. The best thing is to keep trying to convince her how bad it is for her and for you. Once she is convinced she needs to stop, then she can begin the process to stop. Also, don;t just expect her to go cold turkey on her own. Check with your local hospital. Most offer support groups that are wonderful. Maybe you can get her to go to help convince her she needs to stop. Sometimes, seeing is believing. If she speaks to a cancer survivor or someone who was forced to quit becasue smoking almost killed them, she may be more willing to quit. Good Luck!

Talk to your mom about how you feel about her smoking this much... If she won't listen, find her help. You might want to try hiding the cigars from her maybe.

Nothing......there is NOTHING you can do for someone who does not want to quit smoking. Go in your room, open the window and breath from there.

You cannot make her quit, she has to want to quit. She is addicted, just as if she were veining heroin.
