Would you let a 3 or4 year old CHOOSE whether they sit in their car seat?

Would you open the refridgertaor and tell them," Eat whatever you want! Make your own choice!" ?

The same goes with religion. A parent who CARES, a parent who BELIEVES raises their child in a strong faith environment.

For Catholics, it means raising our children as Catholics.

It is something Protties don't understand, because truly living the Catholic faith means it permeates every part of your life. Just as being a Jew is is cultural as it is religious, so it is for Catholics.

You would be astounded at the depth of faith in a Cahtolic family that really means it!

I am the parent of a 16 month old and a 2 month old. They are, by virtue of the fact they have received the Holy Sacrament of Baptism, Catholic children. They attend Mass with the rest of the family every week.

God has willed their existence and saw that they received the Sacrament of Baptism. Therefore, the Church accepts them as Catholics. Why then do you not accept them as the Catholics they are?

Having not yet reached the age of reason, they are not yet required to consciously choose Catholicism. While that is True, that does not mean small children cannot be Catholic children.

Jesus says, "Let the little children come to Me."

Don't keep them away from Jesus by denying their rightful status as Catholic children.

Children are raised as Catholics.

They are baptized as infants, leaving an indelible mark on their souls.

They are surrounded by faith-filled people who pray and worship together as a family including:
+ Their parents and siblings
+ Their extended family and friends
+ Their godparents
+ The local parish

A three or four year old child who has been raised as a Catholic can tell you a lot about God. They pray to God, thanking Him and asking Him to bless the people they love.

Whether you like it or not, these children are Catholic children.

With love in Christ.

Why not? By five or six children are actively participating in their religion (if applicable). Whether or not they made an informed decision before they began participating is negligible. A four-year-old who goes to Mass every sunday and prays to the Catholic conception of God is a Catholic, whether or not the kid actually said "Hey, I think I'm going to be a Catholic".

Well, that's what I think. I hope I have been helpful in sharing my opinion.

Catholic children. I'll say it all day because that is how they're parents are raising them. If they choose later in life to leave the Church, that is their decision, but their roots will always be with the Catholic Faith.

I'm not quite sure what point you are making here. God gives children parents and those parents have certain authority over their lives. God intends for parents to choose life for their children, even if later on in life, those same children as adults will have to make the same choice completely on their own.

Errghh...maybe not at the age of three or four, but around the ages of anywhere from 8 to 87, a child may be, and usually is, capable of being interested in religion and, to varying degrees, accept or not accept religious beliefs that they were not indoctrinated with/against.

The point that children cannot choose thier faith until they are of the age of reason is well taken. They should also respect their Christian Parents.

and let's stop saying antique stores. the stores aren't antique. we should say stores where people sell antiques. and garbage trucks. sure, they're usually dirty, but they're not the garbage, we should say trucks whose drivers collect garbage.
