Because the military is bound by the laws of the locality where they are. I don't know of anywhere in the U.S. that allows anyone under the age of 21 to drink.

Because when some states did have the drinking age at 18. (like Illinois) The death rate of 18 to 21 year olds due to alcohol was astronomical.... Its more of a sport at that age and younger to see who can drink the most... Plus that fact that kids think they can make it home!!!!

You may not believe this, if 18, but the very recklessness of youth that makes you a great fighter in the Army, makes you much more dangerous to yourself and society after drinking. I wouldn't support the law restricting adults from drinking, just telling you why.

Because you are now an adult and can make decisions at the age of 18, like a career choice, ie; joining the army.

Your body is not yet ready for large amounts of alcohol yet at the age. That's why, quit whining.

It is a weird law but I understand why. General George Washington ordered that all his soldiers be given 2 pints of beer a day. This made them "braver and bolder" in combat. On it's face I would support the idea that is if you sign up to fight for your country and we trust you with a M16-a then you should be able to drink however I know most young people are idiots given any percent of liquor so idiots with liquor means bad things so I support the law.

The Army's rules are made and enforced by the Dept of defense, a federal agency. Drinking laws are made and enforced by the states.

Because at the age of 18 you really are just a child. As you get older even you will realize that it makes sense and you'll be able to answer your own question..
