I think it's better to get a gift from a loved one who just does it rather than if I asked then to do it.

If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

I agree with Mel. I really think that stereotype is a thing of the past with Christians doing things out of fear. Most normal Christians do good things in their everday life because they naturally know the difference between right and wrong, as do you. I am an atheist, but I would never think that we are better or superior because of that. I think thier intentions are the same as ours.

I'm still amazed at atheists who believe that the prime motivation that drives all Christians is fear. Believe it or not, I actually get through a day without thinking about Hell. You are right; there are things a person should do because it is the right thing to do. And believe it or not that was just written by a Christian.

I am an atheist and to some extent I agree. But in all honesty, I think most Christians do it because they are naturally good people too and if it keeps those who aren't in line in line fine. In all reality, people are going to do what is in their nature. I've seen Christians who do bad things and don't fear god just the same. I think if you do good things you are a good person and if you do bad things are an immoral person no matter what your faith.

The thing is ... you need to define "good", especially if you've taken religion out of the picture.

Personally, I think you have more character and I would rather have you as a friend if you do things out of a sense of right and wrong rather than a sense of fear.

I am a Christian. I DO NOT do good things to gain brownie points with GOD. I do good because of my changed heart, for the love of the ONE who saved me!

GOD bless

I am like you in that I do good deeds because I think it is the right thing to do. I do not believe that God takes notes.
He doesn't have a checklist.

as a Christian I do "good" things because it's right. My salvation isn't based on "good" works or deeds. What is "good" anyway?
