How do you explain to a Sunday keeping Christian that the fourth commandment is an important one? Then, after you do, how do you get them to believe that Sabbath is Saturday and not Sunday? I hate getting into ignorant conversations with bull headed people, that cannot open their mind to the possibility that what they have grown to know all of their life could be incorrect!

In response to Sha Sha Sharonna, how does Acts. 20:7 have anything to do with the Sabbath? They do not mention worshiping in the context before or after that verse. Also, in I Cor. 16:2 they are getting them to save up their offering money from the first day of the week so they can manage it through the week until Sabbath. Even if you don't believe what I said, it isn't solid enough to say that they were worshiping on Sunday. Third, Rev. 1:10 is actually "On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet," so I don't know where your's came from. Lastly, please look this verse up for yourself, you don't have to take it from me. Then tell me what you think it means. Matt. 5:17-19

Again, so bull headed as so not even to read the entire section. I will add upon the assignment I gave you. Matt. 9:17-18 "Do not think that I have come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, UNTIL HEAVEN AND EARTH DISAPPEAR, not the smallest letter, no the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks on of the least of these COMMANDMENTS and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven."

When Jesus said, "It is finished." he referred to his job done on Earth.

Romans 6:1-14
"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.

...The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in you mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of you body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of you body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace."

What this says to me is, it's not okay to knowingly and carelessly sin consistently and expect forgiveness in the end. Because asking for forgiveness is only alright if you feel the guilt and really accept the forgiveness with no intent to do that sin again. (ie. You can't go out drinking every weekend, then expect to be forgiven as you still have the intent to drink the next weekend.)

I did a small investigation of Galatians 3:24-25 and if you read earlier on you'll find this Galatians 3 15-17 "Brothers, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say "and the seeds," meaning many people, but "and to your seed," meaning one person, who is Christ. What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise."

Now, in my bible I discovered the following:
-Abraham was given the covenant at age 99
-Abraham was 100 when Isaac was born
-Abraham was 175 when he died
-Isaac was 60 when Jacob was born
-Isaac was 180 when he died
-Jacob was 147 when he died
-Joseph was 30 when he approached the pharaoh
-Joseph revealed himself 9 years after he approached the pharaoh

From this you can calculate the age of Jacob when Joseph was born. (See the math http://independencebaptist.org/6,000%20Year%20Old%20Earth/genealogies_of_gen__5_&_10.htm)

Now, Isaac is born when Abraham is 100 (1 year after the covenant.) Jacob is born when Isaac is 60 (61 years after the covenant.) Joseph is born when Jacob is 91 (132 years after the covenant.) Jacob dies at 110 (242 years after the covenant.) This means the law was established 188 years after Jacobs death.

My study bible tells me that Joseph died at 1805 B.C. If you subtract 188 from 1805 you will get 1617. This means the law was established in the year 1617 B.C. My study bible also tells me that the Ten Commandments were established in 1445 B.C. That means the Ten Commandments were established 172 years after the law spoken of in Galatians. Not only that, but Moses was born in 1526 B.C. That means Moses wasn't even born until 91 years after this law was established.

I'm sorry, in one of the previous paragraphs I sad that Jacob died at age 110, I meant Joseph. Also, that the law was established 188 years after Joseph's death.

Now I am not quite sure what is being said In 2 Corinthians 3: 7, 11, and 13 but I will examine it in other versions of the bible. But in Hebrews, I believe that they are talking about the Jewish law that was established aside from God. Jews had many laws and hundreds just concerning the Sabbath. The Pharisees of the time believed that law was religion, as had the Ten Commandments set the basis for their religion. The Pharisees established laws, and when Jesus came he criticized them for taking the meaning from their religion. Christianity and Judaism are not two totally separate religions. The reason it's seen that way, because Judaism had became corrupt due to the laws established by the Pharisees. Had those laws not been established, the only difference between Judaism and Christianity would be the belief of Christ as our savior. When Christ came, the laws that were supposedly "nailed to the cross" would have been the JEWISH LAW, by which I mean that established by Jews, not by God

1. 10 commandments was written to the Jews
2. The new testament tells us if you try to fulfill part of the LAW, then you fulfill the WHOLE of the law. This would, by need, mean that you must commit sacrifice, and deny Christ's work
3. The new testament tells us theat some count holy days and Sabboths unto the Lord and that some count all days the same and count them the same, unto the Lord
4 We are under Grace, not under law
5. The weaker brother is told NOT to despise the stronger Brother for his freedom
6. If it a sin against your own conscience, then, by all means do not commit that sin.

What day did God create the earth on anyway?
Eurpoean calanders have Sunday as the 7th, not 1st day of the week (at least some do), which would make 7th dayers worshipping on the 6th day
Jesus fulfilled the law! If you wish to fulfill the Jewish law, do it all, you have no athority to pick and choose!

First of all, there is no way for anyone to open a mind that God is not working with.

Secondly, to Hogie. What standard did God use to judge the righteousness of Abraham, Issac, Jacob (Israel), Samuel, David, Isaiah, Nehemiah, Ezra, Moses, Aaron....or any of the "Old" testament witnesses of Hebrews 11? Are you better than them? Are you sure YOU are not the preacher of a false gospel? Do you use grace as a license to openly sin? You are more judgemental with less scriptural background than those you constantly accuse.

That being said, I strive to keep the day God set aside as Holy, the 7th Day Sabbath, to the best of my ability. I fail sometimes, that is what grace is for.

Sunday is not the Christian Sabbath. There is absolutely no Biblical justification for Sunday being a day of worship. Sunday was taken from paganism. Sunday worship was introduced by the apostate church (Catholic) of Rome under the rulership of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine was a worshiper of Mithra the Sun God and never repented of it. All who worship on Sunday are sharing in the worship of this false god. Deuteronomy 12:30-31.

The idea that the resurrection was on a Sunday is also false and stems from a lack of knowledge of the Biblical Holy Days, which was supressed by the Catholic church. Read the Passion story in the Gospels, there were TWO Sabbaths that week. Why?

Folks, Hebrews 4, read it carefully, it mentions the 7th day, not the first day, as the sancified day of rest. Please look at your calender and see which day is which.

Almost all "christian" churches agree that the 10 Commandments are valid........except for the 4th. Few realize that the 4th Commandment is a reflection back to Creation when the very first thing God made holy was the SABBATH. Thus the Sabbath pre-existed the Siani Covenant! Read Genesis. Read Matthew 5:17-19, what is Christ talking about? Matthew 5:17-19 is in there for our benefit. This is the Messiah, the Savior of the world talking. He did not intend for a single Law of God to be rescinded by His sacrifice for those who broke that Law.

Why is the Law important? Romans 3:20, 7:7, and others
What is sin? 1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
What happens to sinners? Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death....
Because we are under grace, and remember that the above verses define sin and the penalty for it, are we free to do as we wish? Romans 6:15

What is the sign of the True Church, the Elect, at the end of the age?

Revelations 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Lets keep it simple, forget for a moment that there are aproximately 613 Commandments in the Torah and that Yashua says that the least of them has not passed away {Again, read Matthew 5:17-19 and really think about what is being said}, there still remains the 10. Lets suppose (falliciously) that all that there are, are the 10. Are Christians required to keep them? Please study the following verses. Will you take the plain word of the Apostles of the Christ and the Christ Himself over the false teachings of your chruches?

Rev 22:14, Rev 12:17, 1 John 5:2-3, 1Jo 2:3-4, 1 John 3:4, 1 Corinthians 7:19, John 15:10, Mark 7:7, Matthew 5:19.

The 4th Commandment states:

Exodus 20:8 Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day.9 On six days do all your work: 10 But the SEVENTH day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy.

The Sabbath was the first thing God created to be Holy. What God has made Holy, no man has the right to change. It was Holy before Sinai, it was made for man when man was made {Mark 2:27, and others)

You really owe it to yourselves to study the following links before rejecting the True Sabbath any longer.

For an in depth study of the 7 day Sabbath and questions involved with it, go to the Internet site most amazing prophecies .com or as an alternate go to 3ABN ,com . Both are SDA and have some very complete explanations as to the Sabbath day as practiced by the Hebrews and how it became changed by the authority taken upon them selves, the Catholic Church.

Sunday has been observed for centuries since the change around 450 approx AD. Most all of the protestant / fall away churches choose however to continue with the Sunday tradition. One argument for the Sunday, was the law was "nailed to the Cross" with Christ. It turns out by carefully study of the scriptures, it was the handwritten laws of Moses in which was nailed to the cross with Christ.

Hello Brother Shortie. I am a Seventh-day Adventist and I hope both of us can raise the conscious level of thinking people to the knowlege of God's true Sabbath. There are several Adventists on yahoo answers who made some positive contributions with regard to your post. Most admit that Saturday is the Sabbath. Very little debate about this subject.

Most Sunday keepers lack quality print material regarding the Sabbath, therefore they are in darkness and steep in their religious traditions. Adventist need to do a much better job making our material public to the world community.

Don't fret. Seventh-day Adventists are now recognized by the religious community as a viable and reliable faith community.

We have come a long ways since the 1844 movement. Keep the faith and keep sharing.

Jesus said to judge not, lest you be judged, and that the judgment you make on others will be how you are judged.

So it is you who is bull-headed, and unable to open your mind to the possibility that what you have come to believe is incorrect.

The fourth commandment is but one of many, given to and required of Israel through a covenant. Christians were never a party to this covenant, and this covenant ended upon the death of Jesus on the cross, seeing as he was the God of the O.T.

But you not only insist Christians are bound to this covenant law, contrary to the law, you think Sunday is like a sabbath. It is not. It is a day that has come to be used for communal worship. The first and second century Christians in Rome would gather early in the morning on a Sunday for this purpose before going about their business on that day.

Paul tells the church to cast out those who would teach the old covenant in Galatians 4. The old covenant is bondage and a yoke, but most notably, it is the basis of a false gospel.

Do you really want to risk being charged with teaching a false gospel when you stand before God?

.

I absolutely accept that the "day of rest" (the Sabbath) in the bible is Saturday not Sunday. The 4th commandment tells us to "work for six days and rest on the seventh"...the seventh day of the week by most calendars (including the Hebrew calendar being used at the time) is Saturday...Sunday is the start of a new week of work!

As for the concept of a "sunday keeping Christian", I don't know a lot of those...I know far too many people that never take a sabbath on Sunday or any other day. Sunday is just another work day for far too many Christians and I think this is the far greater concern than the specific day.

I agree that the 4th commandment is important...but I don't accept the premise that the primary importance is in the day of the week. I'm certainly open to the possibility that God thinks the specific day is important, but I've studied this issue and what God has revealed to me so far indicates that the part he cares about (for me at least) is the "work six days and rest on the seventh", not the specific day my work ends.

This perspective works for me for two reasons. First, by nature, I'm more of a four day sabbather...I spend too much time pursuing worthless things (watching TV, lazing around) and God used the fourth commandment to convict me about all the time I wasted...he used it to point out that he made me capable of six days of productive work! Second, God has been showing me why it is important to devote an entire day to him...that the weekly physical and spiritual "recharge" is necessary if I'm going to function productively the other six days!

God created the earth in six days, rested on the sabbath. Made it a Holy Day. The Jews went to the Temple or Synagogues on the Sabboth to Worship, when the Apostles or any follower of Jesus tried to preach the gospel on the sabboth, they were stoned or worse, read about stephen or even Paul, So in order for the Gentiles to hear the mystery of the Church he started going the day and preaching to gentiles in the market places and they gladly heard him. Man was not made for the Sabboth, the Sabboth was made for man, a day of rest and relaxation, a day to worship, you want to go on Jewish sabboth and serve Christ, that is fine by me, have at it, I know and admire a lot of Christians from the 7th day advents Church, but don't judge my soul because I don't judge me because I don't go to the house of God on the same day you do. And if you don't mind, show me in the Bible where God repeated that commandment to his apostles??

Jesus said " I am the sabbath" and in the bible also stated that we all need to have a personal relationship with God, therefore, if you have a relation with Jesus and Jesus is the sabbath, then your sabbath is YOUR 7th day. you can worship in a Sunday or Saturday however the sabbath is different is your day with Jesus, a Holy day, not a fellowship day which is what we do on Sunday/ Saturday, So is your work day starts on Wed your sabbath will be on Tue...and so on. when your read the bible always pray and ask God to speak to you and open your eyes. there is a different... just remember Jesus is the Sabbath, what ever day of the week

Even though the apostles still kept the sabbath. You will find that Apostle Paul did not preach keeping it. The Apostles began meeting on the first day of the week instead of the sabbath because the Lord was risen on the first day.

Acts 20:7
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight

Wouldn't you rather give the Lord the first day of the week than the last?

Perhaps it would help to show them a copy of the Catholic Catechism where it states that the church changed the sabbath from Saturday to Sunday as a "mark of their authority" It also states that anyone who does not agree that the church has the authority to change Gods word should logically be a Seventh Day Adventist.
