No. In fact, I prefer not to so the skin gets nice an crispy. Sometimes I will even rub it with a bit of butter or bacon grease before I bake it to make it even more crispy. I eat the whole potato, skin and all, because that is where most of the vitamins are.

When you bake a potato in the oven you do not have to use foil. The best baked potatoes are done on the grill in my opinion and you still do not need foil. Just be sure to pierce them a few times with a fork. I would say about five times max. cook them for how ever long generally about an hour and a half on 350.

Not at all! Actually I prefer baking potatoes in their skin. Just poke them a couple times with a fork b4 baking. This makes the skin crunchy. When the potatoes are done, cut in half crosswise, scoop out the white flesh and butter it up. Then take the skin 'cups' and put butter and salt & pepper in them.....enjoy. The skin tastes kinda nutty and thats where most of it's nutrients are anyway.

I usually wrap my baked potatoes in foil. But you don't have to. You don't even have to put them in the oven. Wet a paper towel wrap your tater in it. poke a few holes in it with a fork and put it in the microwave set timer on HIGH for like 8 minutes. Volia...top with lots of butter and sour cream

No but it s better - If you want the similar result and dont have foil you cn put it in a small baking dish with a lid.

As others have pointed out quite intelligently: NO.

I like my potato skin crispy... a nice texture change from the soft "meat" of the potato.

No, the tinfoil is just to hold the moisture in.

I put my potaoes with a roast or chicken in a roasting pan, no foil needed.

I don't know about buy themselves. It helps with clean up and may keep them moist and cook faster.

You don't have to, but it will keep the skin from getting hard. I find my kids will eat the skin if I cook it with tin foil, but if I don't, they complain it is too hard.
