If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

Do you know who said this? If not, I will add the credit as an additional note in due course.

I've never thought of it like that before, good one :)

I agree it should be a debate stopper, but then you always get a load of people who follow only blind faith spouting a load of scripture at you from abook written 2000 years ago about a guy that we don't even know for sure existed.

It's not exactly "Good" then is it? People should do "good" because it IS "good", not out of fear of being punished later. That sounds too much like a chore... like when your parents told you that you'll get grounded unless you do the dishes. It's good the dishes are done, but is it a Good thing YOU did the dishes?

Einstein, wasn't it? (Although the re's a bit of me that says it was Russell).

It's pretty much a debate stopper: but only silly debates (like the "if you don't believe in God you have no morals" argument.)

Daniel - What a plonker, why do you think that quoting verses from the bible is going to make us have blind faith like you?

Most intelligent people like to have reasons for their beliefs, not just believing something because it says it in a book written thousands of years ago.

As usual leave it to the Christian Zealot to thumb down lol. I love it they show just how childish they are when they do this.
