and then charging it?

For long-term longevity of the battery.

For longevity it is better to let the battery fully discharge before charging it. This does not have to happen all the time but it helps.

Also avoid storing the battery in extreme cold (freezing or below) or extreme hot (80 Fahrenheit or hotter) temperatures for extended periods of time.

Beyond that most cell phone batteries today are impossible to over charge as they have a mechanism that stops the charging process once it is fully charged.

The batteries develop a "memory" of their own capacity to hold a full charge, based on how you recharge them.
If you wait until until the battery is just about dry, it will maintain it's original capacity for retaining a charge, but if you regularly recharge it when it is only 1/2 down, it will trick itself into thinking that 1/2 a full charge is actually a full charge and soon it will lose it's full charging capacity.

We used to keep our cell phones on chargers and were going thru batteries like crazy. A salesaman form Radio Shack explained the problem to us just as I stated above.

This also applies to cordless phones. Don't recharge them until you have to.

People told me that it is better to keep the battery charge and never let it go empty cause they have acids inside. It is like when you find an old toy that uses batteries and you see some kind of liquid coming from them so it is king like that.

waiting until its empty. It shortens the length of time you can use the battery if u leave it on the charger.

ok, this got here approximately to my brother's telephone...he took his telephone for a swim lol...my cousin advised him to try this and it definitely worked. Take the telephone, do no longer try turning it on. Take out the battery and only placed the telephone in a ziplock baggie crammed with rice. The rice will take up all the moisture. i be attentive to it sounds stupid, yet howdy, it worked! sturdy luck
