We Rol
S Polygraph Results & Experts are needed please...?
I took a polygraph for a job, and the job returned 2 weeks later to advise me that my results were "inconclusive" and that I would have to re-take the exam. Well I re-took the exam and I got the same results. I am not sure what this means. I was as truthful as I could be. Why are the examiners unable to make a decision? If I keep yielding the same result, does an agency automatically disqualify you?

Polygraphs only have 3 results, and they are as follows:

Deceptive: Meaning that the exam indicates untruthfulness.

Truthful: Meaning that the exam indicates no untruthfulness.

Inconclusive: Meaning that the exam indicates that their are areas of the exam that are neither Deceptive or Truthful.

This result should result in a deeper background check into the areas of the exam that indicated the result.

Depending on the job, inconclusive does not mean you are lying and should not preclude you from getting hired.

It all depends on the job. For a Law Enforcement job, they will dig deeper to see why these results are showing up.

Any firm testing you should, in this case, do a much more comprehensive pre-test interview. Since all of the questions are yes and no answers, any qualified operator should be able to clear up this issue one way or another.

I don't expect that to be enough in itself for you to be disqualified from the job. Polygraphs are not perfect science, and inconclusive simply means they don't know. Your results are just different than normal, that doesn't indicate deception. However, if it comes down to you and one other person, and that person did better, they may select him for that reason.

It would depend on what their policies concerning results are.
