Hi folks.

I'm trying to help some friends at the beach. Despite the fact they didn't invite me on their road trip, they decided to call me to help them. One of them got stung by a jellyfish, and they need a remedy. They've already tried rinsing it with vinegar, but it hasn't really healed. I've gone to different websites and they contradict one another. One says to apply ice, one says not to. Can anyone here help?

Oh, and they want to avoid putting urine onto the wound if possible

Thanks!

quick, meat tenderizer is the standard for jelly fish stings. you can either rub dry meat tenderizer on the sting with your hand or apply it on a bandage wetted & then apply that to the sting. personally, I think applying it dry & rubbing it into the sting with your hand is best. This is the best first aid for this sting. do not apply water as water makes it worse.

NOT RUBBING is the best treatment. Applying some vinegar to stop the nematocysts from firing new stingers would be the second treatment. Then remove any 'gossamer' strings you can find. ( the skin on your fingers usually cannot feel the stinging so removal with your fingers is ok). After this, the best thing is very hot water ( but not burning) and that is about all you can do but wait for the pain to go away. Some people use amonia. I suggest you do NOT use meat tenderizer.

NOT ANYONE THAT I KNOW WALKS ON THE BEACH CARRYING A JUG OF VINEGAR ,SO THE FASTEST WAY TO TAKE CARE OF IT IS TO PEE YES PEE ON THE SPOT YOU WERE STUNG AT ,,, YOU CAN CLEAN IT LATER..I KNOW THEY SAY VINEGAR BUT REALLY NOW ARE YOU GOING TO CARRY A BOTTLE ON A BEACH (I DON'T THINK SO)

WHEN YOU GET BACK TO YOUR ROOM START SOAKING IT IN EPSOM SALTS WATER WARM AS YOU CAN STAND THAT DRAWS OUT ANY REMAINING VENOM.

Apply vineger to keep more venam from being injected, then pretty much deal with it. It will go away. Yeah don't pee on it.. Only do that if you have no other way of treating it.
