Why do Canadians travel anywhere? To get out and discover the world, meet new people and cultures and experience different things that aren't necessarily available back home.

Why the US? It is closer, less travel time, cheaper, no language barriers and easier to plan. Yet, the US still has lots of tourism opportunities with some good southern sun destinations. And with a larger population that allow better demand and economies of scale that give you good shopping and entertainment options. e.g. Canada doesn't have a Disneyland or Universal Studios.

The main reason is for the weather, and for the amenities in the places where the weather is warm, particularly in the winter. I know people who go to the US for golfing in winter when there is too much snow here for golfing.

It is true that some people go for the shopping, but there really isn't that much of a benefit to that unless you live very close to the border.

People travel for vacation, of course, so that is purely for recreational purposes, but again, I think that is often connected to better weather.

We also travel to the USA because it is a country close to us that speaks the same language and with a similar culture and way of life. Often people like to travel to places that feel familiar.

Some Canadians travel to the USA for business reasons. There is a great deal of commerce and trade between our two countries.

Hope these thoughts help.

you won't the two be an eternal resident AND carry a Canadian passport. you merely have a Canadian passport while you're a Canadian citizen and, by ability of definition, while you're an eternal resident (PR), then you definately are no longer a Canadian citizen. If no longer a Canadian citizen, yet an eternal resident, the guy will nonetheless want a visa to circulate into the U.S., except a citizen of a usa that's a ingredient of the visa waiver software. If from a VWP usa and employing, you need to pull over to the secondary inspection station, fill out a visa application, and pay a small fee. (For us, it many times takes according to danger 10 minutes.) you do no longer many times ought to do something particular while flying if from a VWP usa. Canadian voters, of direction, do no longer want visas to circulate into the U.S. as vacationers.

There are some neat places to see. We have a lot of friends there. There are beautiful places there and things there that you can't see here.

However, with their new passport rules going into effect we won't be going down again any time soon. I just can't afford to get passports for 5 people and renewing the kids passports so often.

Everything is cheaper to buy in the states than it is to buy here now :D

Also better medical care if you have the money.

Better weather too in some places.

There's just so many reasons why we go to the states.
