I thought they allowed pets of any size on flights, but they had to use the cargo area? He is obviously not going to be allowed in the passenger area.

The twenty pound limit is for "inside" the cabin with you. Most but not all carriers will allow your pet to fly excess baggage. You must provide an "airline approved" crate for shipping, and most will ask for a health certificate to accompany the dog. You should check out different airlines because they all have their own regulations that must be followed. And most require reservations in advance; because they will only allow a certain number of animals on a plane at one time. Outside air temperature is also a consideration for most airlines. They won't fly a dog if it is too hot or cold. And last but not least, check into direct flights if at all possible. You don't want to take the "chance" of having your dog arrive at a destination different from yours. (lol) Really, direct flights, with no change of planes makes it easier on everyone. Good luck.

I believe the 20# limit is for those riding inside the plane. My dog flew cargo when I got her from the breeder in another state. She did great -- came off the plane giving "kisses" - no apparent stress. Just make sure the dog is in a cool section of Cargo if the weather is hot.

Call the airlines again. The 20lb. limit is probably for dogs traveling in the cabin. Most will allow larger dogs in the cargo area.
