You actually may have a sleeping disorder. When people remember dreams it's because they occur at a certain level of sleep than the rest. Your mind dreams almost constantly, but people only remember the last few before waking up. I think you should speak with a doctor about your sleep problem. Maybe try a sleep study. They might be able to tell you if there is an irregularity in your pattern. My mother had apnea and it affected her for years until she was sent to a sleep study and they figured out she had apnea. It was waking her over 20 times every night. You might have something or not. Check with a doctor first.
By the way, people have hundreds of dreams everynight. Not just 10 or so. Dreams may seem like they take awhile when you remember them, but they actually occur in just seconds. Time is not precieved correctly in sleep, that part of the brain is on autopilot so to speak. Just like it's difficult to make out words or numbers in your dreams. You usually know what they mean because it's your dream, but you can't actually recognize them when you look at them.

You're mind is probably worried about other things. I haven't remembered my dreams for about 4 years as well, probably because I'm always stressed. When I think clearly and go to sleep feeling well I remember my dreams better.

The more vivid your dream is and the more you remeber is when that dream is important and is why you remember it.
Every dream has a meaning behind it.
maybe you dont have to know anything right now or you gets signs of something in a different way

There was a time in my idiot 20's when I kept a dream journal by my bed with pen, immediately upon rising I would write down dream + what I was feeling while the dream was going on+ what events that the dream could relate to in my life. Example-a movie that effected me, then similar dream. Honestly I found if you tell yourself to remember your dream to write it down, you then will. One night I told myself I would dream my future husbands name. I woke up saying his name. I wrote it down. Then I indeed married a Steve!

You really can't train yourself to remember your dreams when you are sleeping you are not controling your body, your mind is. It's sorta like memory in a computer, if it is not important then you don't remember it.
