The LAPD has decided if their officers want to carry a .45 they have to purchase their own.

Depends on the department. Some issue their own. Others make you buy-it, although you might get an allowance for uniforms and such.

They will give guidelines on acceptable calibers, models etc. So if your dream is to carry a Casul 454, or an American Eagle in .50 forget it.

I think they are required to purchase their own guns.
