I want to connect my PS3 to my Sony TV via HDMI and use the optical output from the TV to connect to my AV Receiver. The connection works but the PS3 recognizes only 2 speakers on the TV and limits the output to stereo not Dolby Digital. How can I get the HDMI to just pass the sound through the TV? I want to this so I can connect multiple HDMI sources to the TV but have only one optical cable to the receiver.

Many TVs, due to copy protection issues, don't pass through HDMI DD audio. So, definitely check your TV's manual if it accepts DD over HDMI (many don't) and if it passes it trough (again. many don't).

If your TV does not pass through DD over HDMI then you have no choice but use s/pdif directly from your device to the AV receiver.

Hdmi is meant to hold audio, yet curiously on the 2d, the hdmi cables on the industry do no longer yet carry 5.a million digital sound. Your ultimate guess is to get a digital audio cable and run it out of your cable or satellite tv for pc field to the receiver to get finished 5.a million encompass sound. it would be the two a coaxial cable (orange RCA enter) or a optical cable (digital enter, form of sounds like a telephone jack, or it fairly is the closest i'm able to come to describing it.) if your cable or satellite tv for pc field would not have a digital audio output, i think of your television might. utilising the crimson and white audio cables will basically ever provide you stereo sound, no longer the finished encompass sound.
