Popcorn balls are my favorite treat to eat in the fall and since it's getting cold I'm in the mood to have some.

I want to make them..which I've never done. I usually just buy them. How do you make popcorn balls?

Popcorn Balls

12 cups popcorn
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup light Karo syrup
1 tsp vinegar
1 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla

pop popcorn. in a saucepan, combine water, Karo syrup, butter, sugar, salt & vinegar. cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it reaches a soft ball stage. check by dropping a little of the mixture in cool water to see if it forms a ball between your fingers. remove from heat, add vanilla & mix. butter your hands & form into baseball-sized balls.

Good Luck ; )

There are many different recipes but this is the closest to the old fashion kind. If you like you can add nuts, cocoanut and even chocolate chips, just let it cool little for the chocolate chips. I have even put little treats on the inside.

POPCORN BALLS

1 c. sugar
1/3 c. white corn syrup
1/3 c. water
1/4 c. butter
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. vanilla
3 qts. popped corn
Food color

Pop corn and keep warm in roasting pan in slow oven, 300 degrees. Stir and cook sugar, syrup, water, butter and salt until sugar is dissolved. Cook without stirring until brittle ball forms in cold water. Add vanilla and food coloring. (So you can see where syrup has coated popcorn.) Immediately pour syrup over corn and mix well. Have about 4 pairs of greased pans (with butter) ready to form popcorn balls. This must be done before syrup cools and crystallizes, 5 minutes or less.
Makes 12 medium sized balls.

First of all, pop enough popcorn for about 10 - 12 balls ( About 12 cups or so of popped corn). While corn is popping, melt caro syrup and butter in small saucepan. Food color is optional. Pour mixture over popped corn & butter hands well, then shape into balls before syrup cools. ( I usually do in about 3 batches so they shape well. Place on waxed paper lined cookie sheet & cool. Wrap in plastic wrap or ziplocks for best preserving.......You can add flavored oils to the syrup mixture such as cinnamon, vanilla, spearment, etc for a different twist.
I have to admit, I like them the good old fashioned way!

Pop your popcorn. Set aside. In a microwave safe glass bowl, put in 4-6 tablespoons of butter and about 20 large marshmallows, put it the micro for thirty seconds, mix it, if its still chunky put it in for ten second intervals, stirring, spray your hands with butter spray and spray a cookie sheet with butter spray...put the popcorn in the marshmallow mixture and mix it up, then make it into a ball..the marshmallow acts as glue...good luck.
