I have been to the Assemblies church and also read the article. I recommend you try it and study what is being taught in the Bible for yourself. This is the true test for any church or minister.

Speaking in tongues is not just for then, it is for today also, it is the empowerment from on High. As we see in the Book of Acts, I will give u a brief teaching on this, and if you want more then email me and I will give you more. In Acts 1:8 we shall recieve power after that the Holy Ghost has come upon us, In Acts 2 Peter tells of the prophets prophecy in Joel and that is still going on today, and look @ 32-39 notice in 38 it says you shall recieve the gift (the gift) not gifts of the Holy Ghost what is the gift, tongues a prayer language, not the tongues that Paul is speaking of in Cors.and if you go to Acts 8:12-19 see these people where saved and had recieved salvation but yet the Holy Spirit had not fell on any of them. and notice in 18 that Simon seen that the Holy Ghost had been given, showing and outward sign. Now in chapter 10:45-47 the Holy Ghost feel on the Gentiles and they spoke in tongues, and in 11:14-18; Now you say can u show me where Jesus said said that or anything about the Holy Ghost let us look in Luke, 11:9-13 now notice that in this verse God the Father is called our Father showing us that we are His Children, and then we are told to ask for the Holy Ghost and then we shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Now there is some out there who do not believe in this teaching and would love to add their own words and thoughts to scripture, but I have added nothing to the Bible, the Bible speaks for itself on this subject and all subjects. God Bless, and remember that you can email me for more on this or any other subject...God never changes, what He did back then He still does today, He says I am the same yesterday, today and forever, and what I do for one person, I will do for all people...

Most Protestant denominations are basically similar and separations are over non-essential doctrinal issues. I go to an Assemblies of God church and I really like it. The other churches that I have been to felt really dead in their worship and I didn't really get anything out of the sermons, but that can be a church to church thing and not necessarily a denominational issue. I have been to some really boring AG churches too. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that only 144,000 people will get in to heaven, which to me doesn't seem to make sense with all the door-to-door evangelizing they do it would seem that they are risking their place in heaven. Go to several churches and see which one seems like where you are supposed to go. But be careful that you don't just go somewhere that makes things sound good. Make sure you read the Bible and check what that church teaches against God's Word. Good luck finding a church!

The Assembly of God is a really good denomination and believes in gifts of the Spirit. I found nothing to argue with in their doctrine, however it's just too large a church for me. I prefer a small, non-denominational fellowship where I can get to know more people.
EDIT: For CJ: No, they do not say one must speak in tongues. They teach Biblical Salvation by faith through Grace.
For Myaloo: Biblically, if someone in the congregation speaks in tongues so everyone can here, someone should also be present to interpret. Not EVERYONE, just someone. Hope that helps :-)

Most Assembly of God churches are full gospel and they preach and teach the Word of God. Just remember when you go to the church that you are following Jesus and not the church. Get in a good Bible Study group and follow the Word of God. You are commanded to know the Bible so you can use it to judge right from wrong and to judge false religions.
The judgment of God begins in the house of God so most preachers today should be getting their members ready to meet the Lord. In 1948 the Jewish people returned to Israel and became a nation once again speaking the old Hebrew language. They became a nation in one day and those are 3 Bible prophecies fulfilled. The Jews are God's time clock so keep your eyes on Israel. The whole world has their eyes on Israel.

This is the denomination I belong and my husband is a licensed minister with them. Despite what you will read from various people we are actually very normal. Our church follows the doctrine of the baptism in the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2. My advice would be to do some research and make sure you separate Pentecostals and charismatics (they are not the same) and make sure you don't assume that your t.v. preachers and evangelists are
typical of Pentecostal or Charismatic belief.
edit- the copy of the constitution and bylaws of the Assemblies of God says nothing about speaking in tongues
to be saved.
and... we are not mormons

If you believe it is ok. Do you?
Go to the church a few times and get to know its members,if it seems to be right for you, then go for it.
About the tongues-I personally believe that when someone truly "speaks in tongues" everyone can understand them. That phenomena does not occur as far as I have seen.

Assemblies of God is a good denomination. Herbert Armstrong is a cultist, as is his Church of God organization. (Not to be confused with the Church of God out of Cleveland TN.)

I think the only thing I would hold in common with that faith, is the general Protestant belief that no one merits Heaven on their own. And even that gets challenged with the perceived ability to choose Jesus.
There are some positive things about AOG that appeal to me. Usually great speakers, plenty of technology, inspiring music, lots of emotion in those services. But beneath it all is a core theology that I don't agree with, and practices that are a little too radical for me.

Does that particular group believe that you have to speak in tongues to be saved? If so, that is a false gospel, and the place should be avoided if they believe that. Find out.
