Fatty foods stay in your stomach longer, and acid builds up while they are there.
You would think avoiding acid foods (an acid food is anything that is sour) would be the answer, but those usually don't contribute to the problem.
So avoid fried foods and foods with a lot of fat in them.

You want to stay away from foods that are acidic like tomatoes, oranges, salsa things of that nature. Try to eat more foods that are basic for example bread, meats (bland food) to balance out the acid in your stomach.

You can find lists of "dos and donts" if you research "GERD Diet."

Have you been diagnosed with acid reflux or GERD (gastroestophageal reflux disease)? Your problem may not be "too much stomach acid". It may be that your stomach acid is being forced into your esophagus because your esophgeal sphincter (http://www.nbc10.com/2006/0209/6867277.jpg) does not close properly. This stomach acid can erode your esophagus and cause esophageal cancer. You may want to consult a physician if you have "heartburn" more than 2-3 days a week.
